Not content with integrating malware on their CD's, the high and mighty Sony now file for patent on new technology that would ensure that no game would be playable from any P3 console other than the one in which it was first read.

What, you have 2 console at home? Though luck, you will need to buy the same game twice, and don't get mixed up which one plays where, your P3 might blow up

. And forget about renting games anymore.

that would pit them out of business, plus I'm quite sure it would be a violation of anti-trust laws...they might get the patent, but defending their use of it and the publicity would do their game line in imo...

tbh they could be applying for the patent to bury the use of it...I can't see it being good for Sony...

as will all the stores that sell used games....Andrew, dont jump to conclusions...I'm not going to boycott Sony, however I will look at the them with greater scrutiny in the future. Face it, if there was a no nama cd player and a Sony cd player at a store, if I boycotted Sony who would be the true loser in the end....me when I go back and buy the Sony...so in other words they are likely not be my first choice any longer, but if they're the best choice, then that is what I will buy...

You know of Aiwa? Well AFAIK they are a subsidiary of Sony. They make cheaper products that basically do the same thing as Sony's more expensive products. Their quality isn't atrocious either.

Point being that there is always gonna be something cheaper and just as good, so don't automatically assume the cheap one that "no one has ever heard of" will be shit. Doesn't really work that way.

It's true for software as it's true for hardware.

The popular misconception is that Sonay makes the best consumer electronics. Everything Sony that I have owned has been average at best.

That protection will be overrided 2 days out after the first P3 is in street. Sony will ensure the protection is easy to hack. Otherwise they wont have a big-selling console.

well that is my point...if you want average gear, which many of us do, it is quality...afterall average is the largest selling curve correct? If I lived where I could appreciate it, a B&O system would be great...the fact is tough, Sony stuff has always lasted well for me...and I'm gonna buy average stereo gear (which my system would cost close to if not over 2 grand including my TV and tivo, that includes a Pioneer dual cassette deck)...if I'm gonna step up it's gonna be 10-15 grand...but not in an apartment...

FWIW My Sony MDR 7506 headphones are completely awesome...

Would have been my sentiment if not for the rootkit debacle which brought back memory of Sony's history.

I'm not going to actively boycott Sony, a useless exercise, but I am going to look for alternative whatever I buy from now on. Suddenly, today, the Canon XL2 looks brighter and better...
