Well, well, if plugins like 'Ambience' start to appear for free then guys from Waves will loose thier job, soon :)
Magnus, you are the man. I used to use Waves' Renaissance Reverb but it looks like 'Ambience' sounds even better. Awesome job!!!
Just one question, do you have any plans to make 'Ambience' not so CPU-hungry?('cause I have a plan to make some donations :-))

P4(2.4Ghz), WindowsXP, CubaseSX 1.05.

Best wishes,
Vitaly.

Hi, can you tell me how much cpu it uses at max cpu/quality?
On my athlon 1700 (before my computer got broken), I remember vaguely it took approx 20% cpu. I have already put in a *considerable* amount of effort into optimizing it, but it could be that P4 requires different optimization or has some issues that athlon doesn't. Thanks!

Hi,

It takes 9-11% of my cpu(Renaissance Rev uses 5-6%). Looks like not too much. I asked about it because my setup is based on CubaseSX and VST instruments, only, and every percent of cpu is very important for me. Anyway, I can't complain, it is for free. Interestingly, if I open Ambience in empty Project(no VSTi) it uses nothing(Renaissance Rev still uses 5-6%).

Cheers,
Vitaly.

Well, then no problem I guess:) If you run out of cpu, you can always turn down the quality knob, and that will give you less cpu usage. It still sounds very good at quality=50% or lower.
Many people like to turn down quality a bit while composing, and then for the final bounce, they crank it up a bit.

I have already worked very very hard on minimising the cpu usage, to the point where every attempt to improve it further seemed to make it worse :D

Hope you understand, I've really done my best with this already:)

Hi Magnus,

I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of thanks for this wonderful little plug!

I haven't used it an awful lot but it seems rock solid on the Mac and what I've heard sounds FANTASTIC!

Thank you!

Cheers,

Yes I must add that Ambience sounds very sweet indeed. My only wish would be for a gui. With Orion Platinum's default gui it goes off the edge of the screen and the knob labels run together making them very hard to read.Any chance for a custom gui? Thanks for this wonderful reverb plug-in! :D

We are planning to make a gui for Ambience but there's nothing started yet

Agree, Ambience has a really pretty sound, rich and smooth, it surprised me how good it was, very "hardware" sounding in my opinion.

One question to Magnus:

Is Ambience MMX/SSE/SSE2 optimized?

Post

Ttoz: Ambience makes use of an original and mysterious algorithm :) Actually, I haven't seen it described before in the literature. I'm looking forward to your donation=) So far I have only received two donations total. (Thanks! You know who you are!)

Sahul: Ambience is SSE optimized on processors that support it, but it also runs on processors that do not support it, altho slower. I've optimized this code and the whole algo like a madman =)

Hi Magnus,

man, this reverb is incredible. :!: It sounds VERY good. Very distinct sound, I like that.

It has one thing that I didn't find in ANY reverb plugin before: EVERY setting sounds GOOD!!! I didn't find a bad setting yet and I know how to try. That's a quality mark that only good hardware reverbs had until now.
So it's a dream plugin as no one wants to tweak settings while being in a creative flow only to make that super-mega-turbo-plugin to show that it's great indeed (and therefor worth it's money, hehe).
Only one thing: Sound cuts of at some time (at half a minute or so) when using super long reverb times with both multipliers at 400%. Sure this is not my everyday reverb setting but it would be nice though for certain ambince thingies.

Nevertheless this is a very good reverb plugin. And I can set the price... :D
Thanx a lot. :D :D :D

Aaah, I wasn't aware of this bug. Thanks! I'll have it fixed in the next version with presets! I like that people can set their own price too :)

... and a new GUI ;)

Yes! Gui Gui Gui!! Oi! Oi! Oi!! :D:D

But seriously folks, with the defaul Cubase VST gui, Ambience has to be as tall as my screen in order to see all the parameters. Not cool....

But!!! Awesome sound!!!

Forever,

Kim.
