that's why I didn't do too much...read above where I say I'm a trained machinist...though I never really did it for a living. I went to a tech high school and got certified as a tool and die maker (as well as an apprenticeship in mechanical drawing)...I'm gonna fix up a jig that clamps the neck flat. Then I'm gonna make a second flat surface to put the dremel on, that will be at a fixed height as well. If you notice the cordless sits perfect flat like that, so it will leave out any chance of it not being consistent enough across the neck..I might use dowels for finishing but I see no difference in this if you know what you're doing.kaden wrote:Man, getting a consistent,usable result with a dremel is gonna be a challenge. If you have a drillpress, there's useful bodge that would do the job, but a dremel? Cripes...I wouldn't try it, and I likely have more hours logged using a dremel than the rest of KVR put together.

But keep in mind I'm not working with anything metal, my tolerances wont be as strict as if I were using say a Bridgeport. When it comes down to it it doesn't matter what the radius is or even how perfectly smooth it is, as you will never touch that part of the neck anyhow. It is cosmetic there that counts. Buy using a my scale with a square on it and vernier calipers I have no doubt unless it went under tight inspection by magnifyers I'll do fine. By measuring the base of each pitched fret and the thickness of the neck at the valleys and using the square to make sure it's straight by eye will be plenty to satisfy any cosmetic issues.
The way I see it, the most important thing is to work slow and steady, taking measurements often....
