Now [v1.86] it consumes like in v1.83, 27% here in Wavelab 4.01b under W2K. Great job David! You're back on track...

i'm getting some strange noises from 3 band v1.86 when in quality 5, clipping-like (meters not showing clipping). never got that before. it doesn't happen in other qualities.
bugger. i deleted v1.81, a good one for me (except cpu usage was 53%).

I've finally started testing again (haven't for over a week). CPU efficiency is amazing, even on Q 5. I'm really impressed!
Testing 1.87, the one major bug I've been getting on Tracktion 2 is what I'll call "GUI click-through". It seemed like as often as once out of a half dozen times or so clicking anywhere on PLParEQ 3 GUI caused the cursor to actually click on whatever was beneath it (GUI becomes transparent to the cursor).
A second click will always click back onto the GUI itself, but the major problem here is that whenever the GUI is over a track, which it almost always is, clicking through the GUI onto the track results in the playback head changing position to wherever was clicked. Unless it can be fixed or I can disable the function in T2 of repositioning the playhead whenever a track is clicked, it will make setting automation impossible since you will keep loosing your playback position as you try to change parameters on PLParEQ in real time. Even when not automating, it is a bit of a distraction to have playback change position, but the EQ is still useable.
As always, though, many thanks to David for his continued effort and support!

Well, HarmoniEQ generates additional harmonics.Guitarjeff wrote:I just tried the Soft P mode and it does seem to sound a bit better. It seems a bit more transparent and less weird on the low end. Still not near the top of my shootout here but Maybe close to Waves though.bmanic wrote:I'd say it's mainly targeted as a 'character' EQ which can fit certain situations and instruments but it does work very well for mastering when you use the SoftP mode (none of the others work at all in mastering, imho).Guitarjeff wrote:Maybe. It seems to be the Voxengo "Mastering EQ" though. It uses too much CPU to be much else. In any case, I didn't like it's sound.wm wrote:
harmonieq is too different really for comparison imo.

10% CPU (athlon 4000+) seems huge for what this thing is though. I can't see using it in a mix.
Cheers!

Like bmanic said, It's main purpose is to 'colour' the sound.
THE Voxengo Mastering EQ, is definitely CurveEQ !
It's a Linear Phase EQ ( can also be switched to other modes )
and one of the best sounding soft EQs, I've heard.
It's unique GUI makes it a bit hard to tweak,
but also extremely flexible !
And you can always switch to drawing mode and just draw the curve you need.
bye, Jan

I didn't go through the whole thread but I'd like to re-voice the opinion that in ordor to really profit from this you would need a professional to add a flashy GUI to your EQ and another one to properly market and profile your product. I doubt that it would really add significantly more to 6 years of R&D.
It's normal that something like this escapes a man of science, but in the real world it's the flashy, insignificant surface things that shift units. It's what your potential client's tinnitus-eared clients (imagine metal guitarists or dance djs) will really "hear" during the sessions. And you need both to impress your clients and help them impress theirs.
Yes, people are that shallow.
A native RTAS port would be another one of those "useless" things that would largely affect sales.
You'll (I'm pretty sure sure) do these things by version 2.0 anyway, but it would be nice to have them behind you during the first market impakt.

Obviously a computer still can’t throw a television out of a hotel window or get drunk and be sick on the carpet, so there is little danger of them replacing drummers for some while yet. -- Nick Mason

I have to say that I am shocked by the quality of the filters in this plugin. The UI is a bit dodgy but who cares - the transparency of these filters is simply jaw dropping.
I've been doing a lot of mastering lately and so have been keenly evaluating different EQs. Up til now, my opinion was that the best non-surgical mastering EQ available was Voxengo's HarmoniEQ, and the best surgical was Voxengo's GlissEQ. Up til now.
I didn't think any plugin was going to be able to pry me away from Voxengo, but this one did it. The sound quality isn't just marginally better - it is VERY noticeably better and absolutely utterly transparent. And somehow it gives the track that lovely 'gloss' that you hear in professionally-done masters.
I don't know how you folks did this, but my hat is off.
