Hi everyone, I am completely new to using VSTs but thanks to the members here for their help. I have browsed a lot of VSTs here but I am not sure which ones are the ones I am looking for. I make Electronica music but I am not a huge fan of the synthetic trance sounding effects that are usually found in that genre. Could anyone recommend any VSTs that sound more realistic that I could use for a dance track? Thanks

Post

Realistic how? Exactly which types of effects are you looking for?

Post

Sorry I wish I really knew. Perhaps I should just ask which VSTs you recommend for a dance type track and I can go from there.

i think you should first try yourself different effects to see what they're doing.
each effect has a specific purpose, and until you don't know the difference between each other, no one here, even with the biggest will on earth, could help you.

as for a dance track effect, it's quite vague ....
trance, house, idm, dnb, jungle, etc.... all are dance music style

I guess I mean which VSTs are popular for electronica genre then.

im not sure what you mean exactly, but I usually make an acoustic, electronica hybrid. WusikStation can make some almost organic sounding pads and basses, and Useing acoustic drums will usually get rid of that trancey sound you want to stay away from.

Post

Ok thanks I will try WusikStation

you forgot to specifiy 'free and less than 10gb.'

sorry but this is only more vague

as i said, give a try to some of the effects brough with FL (assuming you use FL according to your nick), and when you hear some that sound like you want, stick with it and try to understand how it works

i think honestly, if you're as new to vst's as you claim it, don't bother with what vst to use or not for this or that style, but learn how each works and you'll be more likely to decide by yourself

i know this answer is not exactly what you were expecting (i was newbie myself) but if you don't learn by yourself, you'll never be able to produce anything original, but only to reproduce what the other showed you

Ok which ones are free that you recommend? I am new to these things, I think it is kinda inconvinent to have to go through all of this trouble just to make a song, I expected the software to contain all of these things already.

"you'll never be able to produce anything original, but only to reproduce what the other showed you"

All of my tracks are original, I assume that even if someone uses the same VST with all of the tweaking it would sound totally different from what someone else has done with it.

Of course...
Synth1 and all those banks availables at KVR... (more than the 1280 presets it supports)

try plugsound_free, for the start,

it gives you a nice small package with a variety
of "real-sounding things"

your sequencer probably have it all already but it ain't gonna make the music for you, you'll have to program it yourself :D
and it'll only play what you programmed no more no less :P

well i think you're maybe overestimating yourself :? ... i never heard your music, but assuming you don't know anything about vst's (as you said it yourself), how could you make something original?? when you can't tell what the others have done

Post

Probably because I have been using different software for years that never required having to go out and get VSTs, I manually recreated sounds that came with the software and used my keyboard.
