I don't ever have much vocals in my music but what I'd like to do is start using my voice or rhythmic recordings as an input device for controlling the timing, pitch and CC's of VST instruments.

Could Melodyne ever compete with a keyboard as a form of melody/rhythm input? Is it able to track formants and map them to a CC?

It can't do what you are trying to do, unfortunately. Unless you are one of the few who figured out how to use the Melodyne Bridge

i am pretty good at melodyne, as far as what u are trying to acheive, mnelodyne will let u export a midi file of the voice or rhythm it processes, i imagine that u could turn those midi notes into said information

maybe you should try plogue bidule - you can analyse the audio signal and control vst's quite easily if you don't mind a bit of modular building, that's what I do anyway. there aren't any formant trackers yet unfortunately.

I can't think of any vst's which do that off-hand, though I'd be surprised if one didn't exist!

word up to bidule

MaxMSP would be more appropriate for programming those type of exotic controller based environments IMHO.

to answer the question in the subject line, i think i read a statistic somewhere that said melodyne is 83.4% good. hope this helps.

maxmsp would be better, but only after spending 100 hours learning max. bidule has a very small learnign curve.
