I hope so. I haven't got any response to my e-mail I sent them...

as a mac user I would be interested in the plate and happy to pay for it, but absolutely not with pace

AAR has it right with their copy protection

Post

well I on the other hand am glad that they now offer iLok support as an option.... I like iLok better than C/R (although a simple serial is still the best way to go - I don't know if PACE is any safer... have no knowledge about that)

but yeah you NOW need the kernel driver... it doesn't get installed by the plug-in though...

PACE...

Hate to break it to you, Alex, but iLok is PACE, same exact thing, except it isn't based on your system config but rather the presence of the iLok key. Same TPkd.sys driver gets installed.

Known PACE driver system problems and the irritation of overactive C/R schemes aside, another problem with PACE is that it is one more layer of complication to support, update, troubleshoot. If something goes wrong, I have one more thing to worry about, and then, with PACE, it is likely the source of the problem any way.

I look forward to seeing Tony's resolution of the matter.

no breaking it to me really ;)

I know... it's just that I have that kernel driver on my system and luckily it works mighty fine for me.... but to request a new response code everytime I change something or reinstall is very well... not so good...

I like having it all on the iLok... but as I said... not the best thing either... just I like this more than C/R

I know I'm alone with this opinion... but yeah

Post

on a different matter ...

IF (make that a very big IF) IK decide to use a dongle for Amplitube I would like it to be iLok... but I guess they go with sycrosoft (or whatever it's called) and there goes another USB slot....

sad thing for Laptop users

heck I hate dongles :hihi: screw all of them

and I'm a little schizo I know

Post

Well, I'm glad you knew.

TBH, I've never really understand why iLok required drivers to be installed at all. Why it doesn't work like the specialized USB storage device that it is? It would be a potentially ideal solution if it suddenly made all of your aduio software portable to any machine without extra software to install.

IK I'd guess would go with its own new dongle.

I really hope they don't go with the kernal mode driver. I have had a very stable DAW for the past two-plus years. The only thing that's really crashed it is beta versions of VST's I've tested and several blue screens with TPkd.sys as the source. I even got that blue screen crash one time with the system up and idle without even being in Cubase SX. Since Izotope stopped using Pace for Ozone, my crashes went away.

Princeton Digital makes one of the finest reverbs available(Stereo Room is my go-to reverb of choice), but PACE makes a poor driver. The plain challenge/response doesn't bother me as bad, at least it doesn't install drivers onto your system.

I was really excited about this when it was first announced. I even skipped the R66 group buy to be able to buy this. I'm a huge fan of the room but if this installs that pace driver, I'll pass and pay the extra for the R66.
I'd rather have the plate, but I'm not risking my system either. Here's hoping for the old C/R that they had before!

I would gladly pay twice the price, and sign all manner of contracts stating I wouldn't rip them off, if it was just a simple registration code installation. So this is yet another VST I won't even bother trialling.

Hardware is looking better all the time ...

BTW - if you like R66 plate type sounds, I think the Kjaerhus Classic reverb is in the ballpark. R66 has a little more stereo detail due to the way it uses basically two reverbs in one, but you can use two instances of verbs to achieve similar effects.

In view of the stupidity going on here, www.artsacoustic.com deserves a big mention as a serious alternative with no complications.

It looks like you need that driver for the updates of the stereo room too. I guess I won't be updating either.

Thanks for the tip, Greendoor.
I'm still hoping Princeton puts the copy protection back to what it was....we'll see.

This is starting to look really bad :( Stereo Room isn't the most stable reverb available and if I can't get the updates anymore... :(

EDIT: I just visited PD website and there's this text: "Downloads are currently unavailable while we sort out some technical issues".

I quess there's some light at the end of the tunnel (I hope it's not a train...).
