eh? Channels>Add One>Select. Two clicks. Unless you found some hidden long-cut :?

Yes, but that's only for the plugins you've selected (with the "F") to appear in the first popup-menu, right? For me it would mean an unacceptable massive popup-menu if all plugins should appear uncategorized in that menu. For a choice of all plugins you have to go to "More" first. So for a mixer channel that's: FX Slot -> Select -> More -> Plugin.

Also, this "More" menu has to be closed completely before you can continue working...which I find much opposed to the rest of the logic in Fl Studio working with windows & drag-n-drop.

I just find adding VST's bother me more in FL Studio than other hosts. But perhaps you are right. Maybe the menu system itself wouldn't be a problem for me if it just had plugin subfolders.

just wondering... how many generator/effect plugins do you have? how many do you use? I have two columns of plugs listed in my favorites (1280x1024).

I am not saying that categorization wouldn't be nice, maybe it would, but presently it is not really difficult to get your plug inserted without much hassle. You have already marked your most often used plugs with an F. They are sorted alphabetically, so it is not that you will have trouble finding them. These require two clicks. Actually I think having submenus will be just a trifle more time-consuming for me.

I have never found the need to add more than one gen/effect vst at one time... I generally experiment with one effect (say a free filter) and then add another (delay) if need be. But I am sure you have your reasons. Why would you want the 'More' window open? Just asking.

Workflow and interfaces are often about subtle changes that sometimes only pay off in the long run. I'm not saying it's impossible to use it as it is now, I'm saying it just might be better with the categorization. I've yet to catch myself saying "gee...this song could sure use a plugin starting with the letter A". Sometimes however, I find myself saying "gee..it might need an equalizer". :P
Seriously though, I often find it tedious to find exactly the VST I'm looking for in the alphabetical ordered list, and therefore I restrict my "F"-list to the absolute nescessities in order to keep common tasks fast. I could propably fit all VSTs into the F-list but that would make it equally slow to search in.

But that could just be me needing to sort out my VST folder, or practice my efficiency browsing alphabetical lists. :)

I don't want it to be open :? I just don't want to have to close it in order to be able to make a change to something else. For instace if I'm about to insert an effect, the More dialog box is open, but then I might wish to check which effect is placed on another mixer channel...I can't. I have to close the More-dialog box first.

Again, I think FL Studio is great. I'm just giving some feedback on what is the most disruptive for me and hoping it gets through to the devs. :)

plugins can be categorized by yourself in FL's browser (saved as presets)

Fcuk me drunk mate!
How many VSTs do you have?
May I suggest if you have that many plugins
it might be time to go through and cull a
few of them?
Or maybe you should join VSTs anonymous?
Admitting the addiction is he 1st step.

Obviously it's not meant to work that way.
The "More" menu is for setting up plugins
not for actually selecting them in a song.

Direct Wave sounds very nice and the VSTi sampling feature
sounds really cool..... but you do all know that Chainer
has been able to this ever since it was released yeah?
I know it's not a sampler per se but it's still a cool
feature.
It will save individual notes of specified duration,
length and release time over a whatever range you require
and save to wav or soundfont.....

Even thought the demo version can't save will do this.

Just in case you didn't know.....

when you save a plugin preset, you can drop it and it will create the plugin & load the preset.

So you just need to save presets into the folders you want, and then browse them by category in the browser, and drag/drop them.

We used to bundle a huge list of presets for a lot of plugins, but we had to remove it becasue we were getting too many complaints from 'less gifted' who didn't understand why they didn't have all of those plugins.
