Interestingly, as I'm reading this topic and posting about it, I'm sitting in my History of the Music Industry class where we're watching a movie about.. the Funk Brothers!

Just go to the NPG Music Club and download anything by Prince. The Musicology album is well worth a listen.

I'm working on a funk tip almost exclusively these days. Funk is on it's way back up though.

Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Prince...
so much talent.
good funk is always welcome, specially when 90% percent of the instruments feature a wah.
and...
I'm actually recording a funk 4-tracks cd with a friend.
can't wait to have some snippets to share, 'cause it's just what the doc ordered, good old groove.

Cool, I like Meshell's appearance. And the funk brothers.
Right now I'm reading "Temples of Sound", history of recording studios, wow...amazing book, amazing story. Guralnick's book about soul is also really good.
And I play that funky music...(and I'm white

who is the curly haired blonde singer in the Funk Bros movie that sings 'what becomes of the broken hearted?'
i know her -- just getting to that age where I can't think of her name. They should have let her sing the whole movie; she was terrific. great song (and surprisingly not a holland dozier holland song)
but that's soul r'n'b not funk
funk is Sly Stone, George Clinton/Bootsy Collins straight up
seems to me the time is right

Everybody has a different definition of Funk. Its not just wah-wah.
Funk has its origins in Jazz. Its gotta have that half time swing feel.
Along side Herbie Hancock you've got Art Blakey, Cannonball Adderley and Horace Silver (Opus de Funk)
