Just noticed that Tritone has a free beta out of its Colortone signal path emulation.
Mac and PC versions available here.
Comes with ten models. Sounds pretty good, but I'm not sure if it's really all that much different than just using impulse responses on your own. What say you?

Yes, seems it only alters the frequency response, not the harmonic content.... So it looks like there's no waveshaping taking place, just pure convolution. Anyway, i think i'll find this one very useful... It contains some lovely impulses, for sure!
I hoped it would be more like HydraTone's Fire-stage though, but i guess that's too much to ask for in a freebie...
Thanks TriTone!

Even if this is just a simple IR player with a few IR's, it's nice to have some IR's of some vintage equipment.
Here is my small version:

Awesome! A few words from Salvator of TTD on what CT is doing:
on top of the convolution/modelling, ColorTone can do some kind of compression (especially CT-PRO, which is very flexible about dynamic behavior. It can also do expansion)

It is doing some compression, if you drive the input and the colour setting and then turn down output, it doesn't sound distorted at all. I saw on OSXA that the pro version will let you load your impulse responses.
