Does anyone know of any phaser that let you manually determine its movement...like you can a filter without an lfo?

Post

I would imagine that you could do that with many of them using VST automation. The only problem I suppose is that they all seem to have some sort of LFO modulation that can't completely be turned off. Hmmm...

couldn't one manipulate a notch filter?

An allpass filter.

It's actually not all that easy to do with most phasers, since most don't disable the LFO, and many don't allow you to adjust the sweep range. You may want to wait until Audio Damage's Phase Two comes out in a few weeks, it'll have controls set up to make it fairly easy. A screenshot of it is here.

Some other options:
- If you have Audiomulch, its phaser is fairly easy to control. I also think it's the best software phaser I've tried.
- Virtual Creations Ultraphazer should be easy enough to control, since it actually lets you adjust each filter.

well, nevermind the nevermind. i thought it wouldn't then i thought it would. now i think ultraphaser won't let go of the filter

Mobilohm has a manual adjustment for each cell. You can't turn off the cycling completely, but you can slow it down to 256 beats...

a $300 piece of hardware? what's with this manual phase thing? is it the holy grail?

i was thinkin i'd learn about things like filters faster if i could find explanations that incorporate women, toys, and cats as teaching tools

Post

actually, I did start a plug for just this type of thing a while back. I'll dig it out, I have a few other BetaBugs things to finish off, but the day job is sucking up a lot of time. Our product has a release date in about 2 weeks, and so it's panic stations 'til then..

So watch out for BeachComber..

A filter is like saying to a lady, Oh, that's very nice, but I'm not sure sure about this.

A filter is like playing with sand, pouring it through a sieve and looking at the patterns it makes.

A filter is like stroking a cat, then picking it up by the tail and tickling it's tummy whilst avoiding being scratched.

Does that help :)
