For some reason it won't recognize my mbox sound card, and when I try the asio option and try to use the digidesign asio, it says asiofailed!
Anyone know what could be going on?

You've already managed to get Buzz to load without crashing immediately. That's pretty good. You might want to quit while you're ahead.
If you still want to use Buzz... make sure that the mbox is set as the default playback device in the Windows Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices. Also, try the BuzzWiki.

Well, what I'm really looking to do is tweak certain parameters of instruments/effects at certain points easily kind of like step-sequenced automation...something I'm finding counter-intuitive in most hosts. If I could edit cc's in FL's piano roll, I think I would be closer to what I'm looking to do. The closest I have seen is steinberg's xphrase, but it's not a host.

Mike there are about 7 non-silent audio drivers for buzz. Have you tried DirectX, windows direct sound, regular ASIO, Zephod's synced ASIO, the overloader extentions.
Chances are that if the plain DX, ASIO or Windows don't work the others won't either but they are worth a try. Final suggestion... ASIO4ALL and configure for Mbox.
