First impression after

2 minutes: :help:

3 minutes: :?

5 minutes (browsing trough presets): :)

10 minutes (came to the 'Pad' presets): :D

30 minutes (came to the 'sequences' presets):

90 minutes (rolling my own presets):

2 days: :harp:  :harp:

What can I say. This has gotta be one of the best 59$ I have ever spent on anything. It's right up there with the 40$ on energy XT and the $$$ on Symptohm:Mellohman.

This is one of the deepest synths I have ever seen outside of fully modular (think Reaktor/Synth Maker) and the sound quality is sublime! Fantastic filters, routing possibilities and most of all, the envelopes! I can finally do those nice 'pluck' and stab sounds. So, does Sytrus sound like a virus in some situations? If properly programmed, the answer is yes!. Can it sound like nothing else out there? Yes!!

Does it come with useful presets? Yes.

Do yourself a favour on go grab this hottie while the group buy still lasts. Apparently they have extended it to November 20th. Thank you Gol for creating such a masterpiece (you're not a bad sound designer either, lovely presets man!).

Cheeeeeeeeeers! :band:

Anybody feel like buying me a Christmas present? :)

I'm still torn since I already have FM7 and Rhino. How is CPU usage?
All I need to be happy is one more VSTi.

you will get some widely divergent answers here, so let me try to give my objective, subjective impression :)

Sytrus can be very miserly or a complete cpu hog depending on how you program the patch.
The problem/opportunity is that the synth is soo deep, it is easy to turn a myriad of fx/osc/envelopes on that you are not aware of, sucking cpu.
If I program identical patches that I've used in synth 1 , the cpu hit is negligible. But as soon as you do crazy envelope stuff (And the possibilities here are unlimited), -add the huge unison, chorus, delay, reverb, with 6-12 frequency modulations, then, yeah, it starts to add up.

The first preset uses a bunch of cpu, so browse through them to get a good idea in the demo.

I think that the potential of Sytrus in a patch has still not been thoroughly tapped yet! (Daven has some amazing sequences, though 8) )

and ooooohh, the sound
..what goes around comes around..

I love hearing this, because Sytrus really does deserve recognition. I promise once FL6 comes out, I'll post all the presets I've done here (no not all of them are on the Sytrus forum). Thanks for the reference Ouroboros.

Does anyone know where I could host a few demos? It would be a shame to create a preset thread and not be able to show what they do.

Sytrus is most impressive synth I had seen. Unfortunately the more complex sounds can overhelm my pc (and I'm not going to upgrade for some time) and I have to limit my spendings (already have more synths than I know to do with them). For me it's time is for making more music than just toying with another tool.

love Sytrus :D
and that for 59$$$$ :D
from soft fm to very hard sounds :)

Heavy, actually. Light CPU usage is not the reason to get Sytrus.

I can host them. Check PM for details.

Daven, your presets kick some serious ass! They are quite simply, stunning. Best of the bunch and show very nicely that only imagination is the limit of sytrus.

Cheers!

Since I'm getting no responses in my other post:

I just wanted to guage how many of your are Sytrus VSTi owners who DO NOT use FL Studio. The reason I ask is that I was wondering if any of you miss not having a portamento feature like I do.

Since portamento is a functionality of FL Studio, the synths do not have the feature built into them seperately, and as a result, neither do the VSTi versions of the synths.

I've been in touch with the developers, and they say it's coming, but not for a while. So I wanted to see how many of you are missing this feature, which I consider to be really critical. Let me know.

I did miss portamento a bit. Would be lovely to have per oscillator portamento for some nice pads that slowly tune them selves to the pitches you play. However, this can be semi-faked with the pitch envelope and lfo.

Short answer: yes, I do miss portamento.

Cheers!

I miss portmento on sytrus :(

Thank god I'm not alone...was going mad for a bit!

Can you guys go on Looptalk and please voice your concerns for this lacking feature so that Gol can put it higher on his priority list?

I think it's insane to not have a portamento on a feature rich app like Sytrus, especially when there are VSTi users out there who shouldn't have to buy FL Studio to get it. Thanks much.

CPU usage on the presets is fairly high on presets as unison and oversampling are used on quite a few of them.

CPU usage is *entirely dependent upon what your patch does*. Do a basic VA sound, no unison, and CPU use is next to nothing. Do a 6 operator preset with heavy unison and, of course, it will eat up some CPU. I've never understood it when people say Sytrus has heavy CPU usage. Try and do some of the things that Sytrus does on another VST. Do you think that it won't use as much CPU....? Dream on. I don't use unison that much and my patches tend to be fairly efficient.

In summary, it is a very scalable synth that you will have for some time.
