For year's i've tried a variety of security solutions, everything from norton through to AVG.
With the exception of norton, everything i've used has been freeware (AVG Free, ZoneAlarm Free, etc).
I am now looking at purchasing an all in one solution which i will use after my next install. I am thinking either Mcafee or Kaspersky.
I found an intresting review on the internet giving some statistic.

It seems for antivirus NOD32 is being award the best for speed and accuracy. It also seems to be well priced for a 2/3 year upgrade period. It dosent however contain a firewall, so i would need to go elsewhere...
I think staying away from Mcafee or Norton, which are both resource hogs...

Stay FAAAR away from Norton.
Don't spend money on this. You don't need to.
Personal firewalls are useless (unless you are using cracks that phone home).
No "internet security suite" saves you from regular windows updates.
Good antivirus software is out there for free.
You will just be buying a false ease of mind. Security doesn't just come in an installer.

I've had a bad experience with eTrust. I bought a license for it because it was super lightweight and fast. Then I installed AVG Free and it found 15 viruses that eTrust didn't. I've been a staunch supporter of AVG ever since...
...until I've taken a new look at the latest Antivirus software. Many people swear by NOD32, Avast!, and Kaspersky. It's worth noting that McAfee and F-Prot have been around forever and may have a bit more experience & mature software. It's my opinion that F-Prot was one of the best Antivirus programs in the DOS days. Also that some are free for personal use while others aren't.
For Anti-Spyware I found the Microsoft Antispyware really crummy. It won't properly clean many malware infections and it won't detect many others. I tried the SpySweeper trial and it cleaned and detected what Microsoft wouldn't. AdAware SE also comes highly rated, still have to check it out.
As for Firewall.... KERIO PERSONAL FIREWALL - 'nuff said. -- Actually that Agnitum Firewall looks really, relly nice!!

Just wondered how reliable it was, like using free & open source stuff whenever possible, just with antiviral & firewall type apps one needs to be extra cautious.

My favourite is the little-known German software called "AntiVir". I use the free version and it has caught so much stuff - tons that Norton and others missed - that I will be getting the affordable pay version shortly. I urge anyone to try it out, they did a great job on it, and it's free!

NOD32 seems to be getting really great reviews due to its accuracy, think this might be worth investing in.
I looked into Kerio, but the application will not be further developed in the next month or so, they are ditching this line it seems. ZoneAlarm looks ok, but i have to agree about not giving alot of control over whats going on.
