Hi all!

Where is the best place to sell your own music without contracting with a label? Is there even a chance, that you sell some of your music? Has anyone of you some success in doing so?

Thanx for respond

There are some places to sell like soundclick.com. But you have to sell whole CD's which you have to produce by yourself. I would prefer a place where you can place your songs and you can sell them single. Or a place, where they burn the CD for you and send them to the customer. So you only have to produce music. Selling is not my strength...

I have heard of magnatune. The bad thing about them is, that you need a complete CD. I would prefer selling single songs...

Ampcast.com comes to mind, but you have to pay to be a member.

However, if selling is not your strength, my advice is - learn.

There are millions of artists out there with music to sell, and the ones who are successfully selling it are the ones who put as much (if not more) effort into marketing themselves as they do into making their music.

No website, no matter how big, is going to do your promotion for you. Either you sign to a label and get them to do your promotion, or you do it yourself, but there really are no free lunches in this industry.

http://www.fakescience.com is a new one that just opened. Created by some musicians from Oakland and San Francisco (Bay Area).

Article about it at http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c ... FI26M1.DTL

Just opened for business.

I like their philosphy and business model and plan to use them.

Based on my experience DO NOT use homemademusic.com. Appalling service, and dodgy business practices.

I'm becoming more interested in the digital download concept. So now one of the issues is how to decide on a price point and compression / bitrate format. Fake Science are doing albums at 256Kbps mp3 for $5.
