Using Sample Tank to Trigger Footsteps in Pro Tools

Okay. Please bare with me. I'm trying to set up my footstep library to MIDI in my footsteps using Sample Tank. Is anyone doing this and could possibly shed some light? I can load in my wav samples into Sample Tank and play them out of Pro Tools using ST as a plug-in, but I don't want the samples to be transposed or pitched when moving up and down the keyboard. Yep, I'm fairly new to the whole MIDI thing as you can see but I do have a good understanding of it.
Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Morgan. a fellow Torontonian!
So the way you'd do this is not Pro Tools specific. I actually don't usually load samples like this into Sampletank, for this sort of foley work i usually use the NN-XT in Reason, but i'm sure many people have done this here. The "reason" i dont load them into Sampletank like that is not enough graphical control over where my samples are.
Just to add since the name Pro Tools is in this topic - I got Pro Tools 7 this week and I have to say it is leaps and bounds ahead for all you Sampletank users. I finally have my Multi-Outputs on the mixer and there's a new Instrument track.

Just got PT-mp today. And for all of those who do not know what Instrument track does - it's a midi track that has audio output. This usually requires 2 tracks, one MIDI and one Instrument output track. This way you only have one track to deal with. It's cool concept. But as far as MIDI capabilities I prefer Cubase SX.

Hey, thanks for clearing that up - funny only in Pro Tools is this sort of thing a new concept. I actually wish I had MPowered, maybe in my next life?
The midi is good enough for Morgan to edit his foley though, probably not much more from my past experiences.

But, is there a way to load footsteps and not have the pitch or time change as you move up the keyboard? I would like to know how to do this also. Would it involve going in zone mode and adjusting each key oher than middle C so they have the correct pitch, etc?
Also, are you using ST1 or ST2, Morgan Post?

I'm using ST2, JUST bought it after trying to figure out which would work best like Mach Five etc...
With all the changes/additions regarding MIDI that I saw last night at the Pro Tools 7 demo in Toronto looks as though this might get a bit easier/user friendly than how I am working around this now.
Mr. Tunes, do you have Reason running in rewire mode with Pro Tools to do your Foley Feet? And are you also using this for SFX/Sound Design?
Funny thing about last night is that the Digi Rep is here in Toronto promoting "the biggest software release to date for Pro Tools" and the store doesn't have a single copy in stock to sell because "we're not really sure where our order is, but for sure we'll have it next week"...and they've been saying this since mid-October. This seems to be like such a Digi-thing though!!!

Kind of off subject, but
My biggest dissapointment with ProTools MP is that it does not have Delay Compensation for Plugins of any kind. Because my bread and butter plugins are the ones you find on a UAD1 card, I don't want to think about what should I do here and there in order for everything to be in sinc. That's a step back.
ProTools LE and MP has to be the last DAW software that does not have Delay Compensation. That's just plain embarrassing for Digidesign in my opinion.
Shame on you Digidesign!!!!

Yep, definitely a love/hate relationship with Digidesign but being as they DO control the audio world when it comes to post audio for Film, TV & Animation, ya gotta learn to accept it...hard at times...
Their HD systems do have Delay Compensation.

Yeah I run Reason in Rewire mode. At actually walking foley, i stink, I stink at editing foley into place too, but with midi controllers i'm better at it. one of the sound designers for the Simpsons uses a midi guitar to trigger his foley steps.Morgan Post wrote:Mr. Tunes, do you have Reason running in rewire mode with Pro Tools to do your Foley Feet? For SFX/Sound Design I use a lot of Sonik Synth 2 more than Reason, but a lot of that's going to evolve now that I have V3 - the combinator takes things to a next level.
Hmmm I missed this Digi clinic, that's bad of me. Even though I already bought it online, I still like to hear what people say about it in person.
And yes, the lack of Delay Compensation makes me very weary about doing anything in pro tools. A part of me is actually not that familiar with DC in general and therefore i'm extra scared of it.

You didn't miss too much last night. It was more or less 6 hours of features & changes packed into 2 hours of demo going over some of the new features, mostly for music/midi which are all very cool but I love Logic as well. They were just showing off the new Pro Tools LE 7 which I'm definitely picking up for the fact that there are 10 sends, more power for plug-ins, improved MIDI tracks and a choice of two plug-ins.Mr. Tunes wrote: Yeah I run Reason in Rewire mode. Kinda wish that I had gone to the AVID presentation last night as those are amazing and they wine & dine you for FREE!!! Even though Digi is owned by AVID, they never have the spread that AVID does...go figure
Do you work in audio in T-Dot or a home-studio person?

Well when people ask me is PT7 a big change, i tell them that it was enough of a change for them to change the logo of the program! 6 hours woosh shows you how much is different now. Avid and Digi have nothing on Sonic Reality - I heard that in Florida Squids serves a mean Asian cuisine at his seminars
i'll be at the Toronto Music Expo seminars all day tomorrow and one on sunday. maybe i'll see you there?
I'm a home-studio guy, recent college grad whose just figuring out what he wants to do
