Hello All,
At the request of several Mastering Engineers, the newly inserted plugins always default to the highest possible quality setting.
For the 10 band it is unrealistic to expect to do real-time mixdowns at QL 6. That's a whopping 32,768 samples, in stereo, to process in real time.
So be sure to check the QL and drop it down to something reasonable like 3 or 4 for most live purposes. Levels 5 and 6 are meant mostly for track bouncing at the highest possible quality.
Running the 10 band in Sonar 5 with 64 bit engine works just fine for me here, but I'm running QL 3 right now. I can push up to QL 5 if I need to.
Also, sometimes upping the size of your ASIO buffers may permit you to squeak by in realtime at QL 5. Doubtful for QL6.
Cheers,
- DM

In Sonar 5, 64 bits, I'm showing peak loadings of 31% on a 3 GHz P4 while rendering a stereo track through all 10 filters in realtime. At least one of those filters is using M/S processing to force an even harder load on the system. QL 3.

I should have mentioned.... all the tracks and mixing panel are also running, and I also have an instance of Lexicon Pantheon running at the same time....

The pic shows 10 2-pole filters running in Phase-Linear mode, in stereo and M/S processing with QL 3 = buffer size of 4096 samples. This means we are effectively running 4096 * 40 biquads every time we have a new batch of 512 samples. (8-fold temporal overlap). 1 2-pole filter = 1 biquad. Phase Linear means 2 passes through it, and stereo means 2 separate batches of processing. That's a lot of work!!!

Plus.... since my SR is 44.1 kHz, there is preliminary upsampling to 88.2 kHz before the filtering begins, and then subsequent downsampling back to 44.1 kHz for output. But since we are in 64-bit mode all the way through, there is no need to dither back to 24 bit audio...

Audio Interface is a MOTU 2408mkIII with the PCI-424 interface on the PCI bus.
