Just about the worst magazine I've ever read...
From the same issue:
Steinberg Studio Case II 7/10
Soundburst Northmood 7/10
Antares Avox 7/10

Have you ever read Heat?

Actually, CM was a considerable help in getting me to grips with music production. I find other mags more useful these days, but I wouldn't say it's anywhere near sh*t.
well, I think all of those products deserve maybe around a 3, so... 7 is very generous...
In all seriousness, a 7 in CM is pretty bad (maybe not a 3, but probably a 5 from less biassed sources). Never pay much attention to 'grades' from a source that gets paid for advertising the products they review.

As an asside, I am glad to hear that NorthMood was received so lukewarmly... I was actually considering it, but I guess I'll hold off on that one...

FL6 is complete and in the hands of reviewers?

More like just in the hands of reviewers.

deaneager wrote:Surely different mags have different scoring criteria. Some may work on a linear scale based on the reviewers personal preference, some may have a list of criteria that has to be met, of which most commercial products will sail past the low scores, therefore there may be a huge difference between an 8 and a 10. As dougsyo said, the text of the review is where the meat is. The final score can only be a rough, like-for-like indicator between products reviewed by the same magazine using the same scoring criteria.
As for magazines appealing to teenagers because they use more pictures. Well, it has little to do with age, some people are more visually oriented and are stimulated more by visuals. It has nothing to do with intelligence either, in fact, visually oriented people tend to think a lot quicker than those that are aurally or kinaesthetically oriented. Personally, I find FL's video tutorials a lot quicker and more effective than any manual I've read - a picture paints a thousand words, after all.
There are no need of 10 point scales really. Four are enough:
1 - just crap
2 - bearable but better search for something else
3 - good and usable!
4 - fantastic and very hard to find something else that good!!!

All imho of course.

Man... I wouldn't dog CM for substance... lot of great how to articles in that mag. Comparable magazine with similar subject matter in the US... none except Remix. And that thing is really thin on substance. It's like everything is from some wank 'whoa, Rebirth is rad!' DJ's point of view. Of course, you can get a subscription for $5 so no big deal. ;)

:hihi: JMC said (in LoopTalk) that the reason it wasn't launched yet is that they were waiting to get it back from the CM to launch it :D

Carb.
