This is how to run ReBirth without the CD.
Download a virtual CD Player like Daemon Tools.

http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/downloa ... ry&catid=5

Install Daemon Tools then right click the red Daemon Tools icon in the autostart, down right corner on your PC.
Go to the menu and follow these steps:

-Virtual CD/DVD Rom
-Device 0: No media
-Mount image
-Select new image
find your imagefile (rebirth_iso_installation.iso) of Rebirth on your harddrive that you downloaded from:

http://www.rebirthmuseum.com/

or

copied from the DVD to your drive that was included with the "Computer Music issue 93".

The file is a ISO-image and should have the extension .iso

When you have selected your ReBirth .iso file double click the file or open the file.
Now your ReBirth file is mounted and you can see the ReBirth icon if you open "My computer".
Double click the ReBirth icon "RB338V20(I: )" and install the software.
After installing.
Start the software by clicking the ReBirth icon on the desktop.
Keep the ReBirth.iso file mounted when you run ReBirth.
Happy ReBirthing!!!!

Was this useful?

Might be - do you have to use Daemon tools, or can other players do it too (I'm thinking Nero)?

This would be very useful; I tried doing it the "proper" way and the disk doesn't seem to be recognised - I get the message "waiting for CD" and it doesn' go away, even with the CD in place :(

You guys are just figuring this one out :? ?

just out of curiousity, how much space does the rebirth .iso take up on the hd?

Post

Any virtual CD/DVD drive program should do the trick I would imagine.
Alcohol 120% for example......

Do You have the ISO-file of ReBirth?

yeah I just leave the iso constantly running in daemon tools.
Did the same thing for my daughter with some encyclopedia brittanica images so she didn't have to faff around with the disks.

now that rebirth is freeware, i guess there would be no problem in using a crack to avoid needing to have the cd inserted all the time. ??? dunno.

Of course you can use a crack but it´s a big risk getting virus on the drive if you use cracks. I wouldn´t!
And if you use a virtual CD-tool like Daemon Tools you don´t need the CD that´s the point with it!

yep. true.
so one has to balance out:
risk of getting viruses : waste of disc space
:)
but 200 mb isn't really much nowadays anyway, so....

This is actually a myth and there are many users
who have been burnt by pace who would classify it
as a virus.
Many pro audio users of certain programs and plugins
(waves bundle for example) actually recomend buying
the license to be legitimate, but using the warez
version, because it's actually more stable.

Pace has caused legitimate users in the industry to
lose money when it brought their system down during
a session.... sometimes even crippling the computer
altogether and forcing a re-install of the OS.

I'm not saying that all warezed programs are virus
free...but definitely, if it was a big problem, we'd
hear about it....I don't hear any more reports of
users catching virii through warez than through
legitimate channels.

As with anything D/L'd from the net, you should always
run it past a virus checker to make sure it's safe.

200mb costs about 1 swedish crown, it´s about 0,12 US dollar with todays exchange rate.
