Here's what I am using and I'm very satistified with the configuration (but will be upgrading the DAW soon):
Cubase SX3 + Reason 3 (ReWire) + FL Studio (ReWire/VST) + PlogueBidule (ReWire/VST) +
FX Teleport (VST(LAN)) with WaveLab as my editor.
DAW: 2.4GHZ Pent IV, 1GB RAM
Laptop Server: 1.86GHZ Centrino, 1GB RAM
750GB Total Storage on 5 HDDs

Check out the Live 5 demo, They have made the MIDI editing really fine.

When got into making EBM/noise I spent a long time trying this and that. Modplug works - period. I don't need a flashy interface with a bunch of crap. Give me a sample editor, an instrument editor, and a midi tracker. Good to go. Oh yeah - and open source means if it's not good enough for you, make it better. Audio software shouldn't cost as much as it does. end of story. Download Open Modplug.
