Thanks kritikon and Jonny X, it was indeed a plug, I removed it from the project and now all's fine. Funny thing is, the plug wasn't even activated, it just sat there in the VSTi window

When done with your project, if you do MIDI, it's also a good idea to export the tracks, they are saved as xml (saves all events, track and part name, routing). It would be easy to convert the events to a MIDI file, even in 20 yearscptgone wrote:Yeah, I regularly "save as" to a new title ("titleYYMMDD")Liondream wrote:You should always save a safety copy of your file in addition to your regular file in case your main project file gets corrupted.
That way I have a "history" of all MIDI tracks and settings.
Let's you also import 1 or more tracks into another project.

That sounds interesting - how does this work? (and btw what is offline processing??). I'm still looking for the ideal host for me and I would like a better way to integrate my Nord G2 to function as an effect in particular (at the moment I can do it in Creamware Scope but not in my hosts)steffensen wrote:the external instr/fx thingys are GREAT! (as well as offline processing, wehoo!) finally i have a good alternative to handle my HW stuff.

offline processing, is just so simple that u can process the audio directly in cubase. put efx on what u want, and process it. u can even undo the processing afterward, coz its all saved in a history undo file.aMUSEd wrote: That sounds interesting - how does this work? thas cool imo.
i am using SCOPE myself, and i am using all my scope synths/efx, and my external synths as well, just as VSTi/VSTe now. wich means u can render the synths like regular vsti's etc. and put them thru the master efx if needed/wanted. very convenient!
edit: how it works btw, is that u send yer efx/synths thru the asio modules, and set up a plugins with the settings for the asio in/out in cubase. pretty simple really. (just the way many in planetz have raved about for years actually, doing it with Logic's i/o plugin instead tho.) i cant help but to feel this in some way of XTC/SFP morphing.

Well then, it was not an unstable Cubase.
And by the way if you have the latest Cubase SX2 it is VERY stable.

So you can do all this without having to use XTC mode? At the moment I tend to just use my hosts (usually Tracktion) as a sort of tape recorder but it would be nice to integrate everything into one host. Do you have a default project I could take a look at where this is set up (is there a Cubase demo incidentally - I'm getting interested now)steffensen wrote:offline processing, is just so simple that u can process the audio directly in cubase. put efx on what u want, and process it. u can even undo the processing afterward, coz its all saved in a history undo file.aMUSEd wrote: That sounds interesting - how does this work? u can do all this without XTC mode yes! i also used Logic that way, 1 midi track and 1 audio recording track. i will still use audio tracks, for my bounces, but this way i can produce without bouncing and mix at the same time, until i feel i have something worth bouncing etc. u know what i mean im sure.
well, the SFP project is pretty simple really, here is a screenshot of it tho:

edit: dont think there is a demo of cubase out yet, im trying it all at my mates studio. we'll see if i can settle with SX3 after getting so used with Nuendo3 atm.

Thanks - it's not hugely different to my default project except I put a channel strip on each ASIO in s I can insert Scope fx where I want. I have 4 channels of audio - 1 for my Korg, 2 for Scope synths, 3 for my G2 and 4 for the final ASIO mix which goes into an audio track in Tracktion (or eXT) with E-E disabled to avoid feedback. But if there's a better way to do this I'd try it. One problem is I can't seem to record the fx when I insert a scope effect into one of the asio channels in the mixer - fx only get recorded if I insert them into one of the channel strips for my hardware or when I route the whole mix into channel 4 and record that. Also I never could get that external fx plugin to work in Logic - maybe Cubase does it better. Also I'd like to be able to use the G2 in this setup as an effect too as its great for that - I have to use a custom setup specifically for that (using Scopes own version of an external fx plugin) but I'd prefer to have one for everything ideally.

i dont use a channel strip, i just insert whatever fx i want, and where i want it. either between the synth and the asio dest, or i route a channel out of the asio source into the dynamic mixer and put a final fx on it there. whatever suits my needs at the moment. SFP is kinda adjustable to suit yer needs.aMUSEd wrote:Thanks - it's not hugely different to my default project except I put a channel strip on each ASIO in s I can insert Scope fx where I want. also, the i/o plugin in Logic works just fine. ive used it PLENTY, tho u cant save the whole setup as a vsti as in cubase. Logic is more about goin modular tho, so it works like expected.
as said, u can use any external stuff as either vsti or vste. its really up to you. btw, u know that u can even freeze the scope fx this way? not just the external synths i mean.
personally, i couldnt want anything more now. finally im 100% pleased with the way i integrate SCOPE into my host.

i use eXT also btw, i find it to be Logic in new clothes kinda. they are very similar imo. ive choosen to use it as a modular extension to cubase (as it seems im gonna go the cubase road..) instead of a main host, for now anyway.. we'll see in the future. im pretty sure im gonna go eXT all the way in the end.

Yeah eXT is like the Logic environment in lots of ways.

Mmm, hadn't thought of that... That track export command is cool.mbncp wrote:When done with your project, if you do MIDI, it's also a good idea to export the tracks, they are saved as xml (saves all events, track and part name, routing).
