its been attempted so many times

i think the only way to do a quality collaboration is to have some common idea for what it is going to be. 15 seconds each would work, but how many peices would there be? how many peices would just be indistinct trance or 303 stuff?

we'd need to decide on a strict tempo or it would sound like flipping through channels randomly, although that wouldnt be a bad effect.

Maybe, define a certain melodic sequence, and a tempo. Then, have each person do 16 bars with that. Then, the KVR folk get to vote on which ones go into the final song, and one person gets to mix them together with transitions, also voted by the KVR folk.

Nice. Is that realistic? All the voting and stuff? I guess if there are the contests each month. Just wondering who would have the time to mediate all this.

You would definitely need strict tempo - but I don't know how cohesive it has to sound. I think it'd be kinda cool if it's rock one moment, tarnce the next, symphonic...you know, really show of our skills.

voting isnt very realistic, especially if it is a public vote.

voting would be realistic if a certain number was decided on, such as 7, and everyone voted for every other peice by putting them in order from worst at the bottom to best at the top. the average would then be taken and the top seven would be used. only those who have a peice being voted on will be allowed to vote on the others excluding their own, and only once. voting would be anonymous and be moderated by a single individual.

in the case of three peices, A, B, C, being the author of C, you could then vote once, either for A,B, or B,A.

edit: i havent explained this clearly enough.

in such a case of A,B, A would recieve 2 points and B would recieve 1 point. the total of all points would be taken from all votes cast and those totals would be used to arange all peices into the average order. 'ties' can occur with this system though, suggestions are welcome for post-vote resolutions to this problem.

i dont think having a specific key or sequence followed would be good, nor would a specific tempo. this would limit the styles too much. a good rule would be to try to fit something unique about yourself into a peice, although not to place too many expectations or limitations on it. a good tempo would be relativly close to 133, but could really be anything, while the expected length should be 15 seconds total, although it could be shorter (hopefully not) or longer.

voting would be expected to be based upon first, the unique quality of a peice, and its position be subtracted based upon the voter's feelings about the tempo / length of the peice. a very unique peice being 40 seconds then may actually stand a chance, but a trance kiddie entry of 4 seconds probably wouldnt, although you never know.

i might make something simmilar my entry.

the style would be completely unique for every individual hopefully, so it would really feel like listening through the entire (or atleast a major part) of the kvr 'scene'.

in voting, quality and 'production' shouldnt be taken into account at all, since i assume we're considering peices for their value as representing unique individuals here, and not for how closely they match a template genre peice.

Just choose any member's song with the sound of two people fighting in the background over a plugin.

order of the peices in the final result would be complex as well :)

maybe the standard N = N * 0x000343FD + 0x00269EC3; twister could be used with the total number of participants plus the summed score of the top seven (or otherwise) peices used as a seed. the resulting progression of numbers would be modulo by 7 (or otherwise) even if this isnt exactly a statistical perfectly even distribution for all numbers, the 16 bit range should be high enough to make that unimportant, and also the solution to such a problem is extremely complex.

ok, enough ranting?

Ah yes,

good that I found this thread again where I downloaded it. Heard it several times. I LIKE this song, Krim! Really cool. :D My wife likes it, too. The mix is a bit strong in the upper mids though, to aggressive. What's the original?

Best wishes, FRitz

Can't you just remix the umpa-lumpa song?
In honour of all the wonderful devs who (willie-wonka like) magically create all these amazing plugins out of moonbeams & fairydust?
