Spotted something in SX3.1 today. As I have installed the upgrade over 3.0 then I cannot find out if it is a bug or not.
I added some insert fx to a bass track. 3 different fx, that left me with a great delayed groove on the track. I then thought I weould try a different bass vsti, but, found that switching the vsti also cleared the actual channel of the insert fx chain. Meaning that I had to start and build that chain again (a right pain). Is this a bug? Is it now an option to 'clear channel' or something? Strange. Can anyone else confirm this?

I can't recall ever having experienced a different behaviour in Cubase, you? To me this was always the way Cubase worked...???

Maybe Jo. Thats why I'm asking the question as I cant recall a similar situation, but, as it has caused me a problem today, I believe it may be a bug? I mean, if you take the time to come up with an fx chain then why can you not change the vsti to check the chain with a different instrument? It seems strange to me. What version are you on? Can you try and recreate the problem?Josmoker wrote:I can't recall ever having experienced a different behaviour in Cubase, you? To me this was always the way Cubase worked...???

always been like that
if you want to avoid this you can save the channel settings i.e. all the insert fx's positions as a preset - just right click at the bottom of the channel of the mixer and save selected channels

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Which great man said: "It's not a bug, t's a feature"?marcouk wrote:Spotted something in SX3.1 today. As I have installed the upgrade over 3.0 then I cannot find out if it is a bug or not.

When you delete a VSTi in Cubase, it always deletes any and all of the Mixer Channels; it's always been this way, and something that Cubase-haters revel in. I'll bet that'll change one day, but for now, here's what you can do:
- The quickest thing to do is use the "Copy Channel Settings" button on the mixer, delete your VSTi, load a new one, paste your Channel Settings into that channel
- Don't completely unload your first VSTi, just bypass it and the FX and use the Copy/Paste. Your CPU will still be freed up

ok guys, thank you. As I said, it was not something I had ever noticed before. (Hence probably why Steinberg cannot be bothered to fix it I suppose)

I suppose another way is to use group channels more. If you think there's any chance that you're going to try different VSTi, route the audio output to a group channel instead - then even if you unload the VSTi, your inserts will remain untouched.
Although personally I don't much like having to use huge numbers of group channels.
As said - they haven't "fixed" it because it's not a bug. It just isn't a feature that they implement, is all.
One of the few things that would greatly improve workflow to me is movable and interchangeable inserts. As I'm sure many others have argued. There certainly are workarounds, just ungainly ones, unfortunately.

Yeah, frankly I'm surprised that inserts haven't become more flexible yet! You've always been able to swap orders in Wavelab, odd that you can't in Cubase. Again, it's probably just a sign of its age. Or maybe it hasn't been that big a request with users, who knows.kritikon wrote:I suppose another way is to use group channels more.
