I saw this a while back - and it is amazing. 
However, I watched it closely, and I came to the conclusion, that yes he was actually triggering the notes with the balls, but he was not hitting the correct notes. My guess is that the music is pre-programmed such that the sequence (not the timing) of the notes was programmed. Then anytime a ball hit any part of the keyboard, the next note in the sequence was triggered. Anyone else concur with that?
Regardless, the guy shows great skill and hand-eye coordination.

Whoa, you're right!
I just watched it again - closely. And there are obvious signs that he is not hitting the right notes. Like when the note progression is going lower and the ball is hitting higher notes.
Good catch. That blows it for me... Worthless entertainer...
