SONAR 5 with Intel

Post

hi

Post

.... sorry, I'll get back to work in a moment... but I had to share some really exciting news with you all!!!

The compiler we obtained will work for both AMD and Intel, they have no affiliation with either company, and best of all these are Scientific-Grade Parallel Compilers -- meaning that they will produce the absolute highest possible performance, and take maximum advantage of multiple processors (up to 4) if you have them.

This is the compiler used by the pharma industry to do their giant molecular models... wooo hoooo!!!!!

... okay, I'll get back to work now...

That's great news, very promising indeed!

David, I missed the first donation drive but I threw my $20 in---maybe you can take your wife out to dinner again or something. :)

As long as PLParEQ 3-band is donationware (which it rightly should be), I will contribute more in the future. I'm a little tapped out at the moment, though, so I couldn't give $50 right away.

This is certainly worth more than $20, though, as I'm sure most will agree, so I vote for keeping the donation line up for a while.

Jeff, Doug, Rabban:

if you are able to use QL5 with succces plz post whatever settings you made in sonar that are relevant to using PLParEQ.

i am able to use QL5 on a celeron laptop i have but not on a P4 desktop where i do most of my music. it's getting frustrating so i'm looking for answers. when i bounce in QL5 i still get the tempo chugging.

david already responded and is not able to dupe this problem.

thx fellas!

I just tested out version 1.99 and it sounds good.

David, how efficient can this plug-in become as i would love to be able to use it for mixing.

Post

Well, it looks like I have to wait for business hours to open in the morning before much more can be done. No way to get authorization on the compilers and libraries until someone is in the office at Intel and PGI...

I was just pondering the possibility of making PLParEQ read a "personality" file that would indicate the highest QL you are really interested in. That way, when the VST host opens the plugin, and asks for the latency, the plugin could read that file, compute the maximum latency needed for your requested upper limit on QL, and then tell the host.

That way, if you are mixing and tracking, and you don't really care about going much above level 2 or 3, then you wouldn't have to pay the price of such incredibly loooong latencies...

This personality file would also tell the plugin how many processors you have so it could parallelize across that many CPU's and gain some speedup if you have more than one CPU. The new compiler supports that sort of thing.

Hi politcat.

I am out of the office for a 4-5 days so I will check the settings when I get back. Maybe it would be worthwhile to post your concerns over at the Sonar forum; I know there is an active thread over there about the PLParEQ. Hopefully, others there have used it with Sonar 4 or 5 and can see if they are getting the same issues.

Come on David, there must be a solution between a 10-band-version and a version which expires at the end of the year ..

5-Band with all features of the big for 449 Euro.

... or you offer the 3-Band for say 199 Euro in next year .. sold as the little brother of the big for mixing and sometimes for mastering (sweetening)

Affordable for every musician ..
