Voxengo Lampthruster
Its the first digital EQ I've ever used that sounds good when you boost.
Really, I can boost bass guitar/kick drum down at 50hz and it just sounds good smooth and sexy- add in the subtle valve simulator stuff and its fantastic I slap it on all my channels.
I'm sure it will have utility for tweaking and mastering entire mixes.
Its a virtual 'magic box' preamp, great for tone carving.
TLs pocket limiter.
For some reason I'm falling in love with this as well.
Rather than using Blockfish for drums etc, I used P Limiter to get more obvious punch and a tiny bit of crunch.
And its free.
Blockfish.
Used this for years (I think), a great unit, and free! I use it as an overdrive box on a channel, it had a nice overdrive sound. Works very well on bass guitars (or at least, mine).
These 3 would be in my 10 desert island VSTs I think.

I can't dance for Blockfish enough! I have to stop myself from using it on everything.

The drive/tube settings in Lamp are subtle....but if you switch between the tube modes you should notice a difference between them.
The EQ can be very radical. I bought as an EQ with the tube stuff as a bonus. If you have glisseq may not be worth getting lamp.

Just wondering how lampthruster compares to electr-EQ / posihfopit ? Tried running a comparison? I really like how Posihfopit sounds, and especially noted that it can performs well when boosting, but as I don't work with well known sounds like pianos and voice, and currently lack proper monitoring equipment, it's hard for me to recognize the subtler details (in case you are wondering why I don't just do the comparison myself)
Finally let me join in the praise of blockfish - I keep telling myself I should try some of the more recent and much talked about alternatives, but very often switch back to blockfish.
Thanks for the heads up on pocket limiter, will try it on a perc. track soon

Speaking of Blockfish, on what kind of tracks do you prefer to use it? Has anyone used it for mastering?

I can't use Blockfish ever since I went up to XPhave you guys ever had issues with blockfish, like the saturation sticks or something... stuff like that?
I even had some minor problems with it on my old Win98 system...it would crash if I used any more than 3 instances of it every time.
A shame really, as I liked it in dual series mode. You could crank the compression right up without too much pumping. Having said that, I use Kjaerhus for pretty well all compression duties now, and am happy with it.
