using LS 1.22 wrapped with DirectiXer. not getting tempo sync in SONAR 4.04.

Post

i don't know much about SONAR, but i think someone mentioned a similar sync-problem with SONAR and another plugin somewhere in the instruments section. unfortunately i couldn't find it anymore, but it could help if you dig there. ;)
afair there was a way to setup the wrapper to make it work.

There is a workaround if the host doesn't provide sync information: select "manual sync" in the settings page and the playback position will be reset to zero every time liveslice receives a note-on. This means your are a limited to triggering all arrangements exactly in the beginning of the bar.

If you can name other plugins that correctly receive sync information within DirectiXer, let me know

SonicBytes EST works perfectly regarding sync info from SONAR/DirectiXer.

, ok, I'll get the Sonar and EST demos and check it out.

8)
thanks.

i should quickly add that you will need the DirectiXer demo also since the Cakewalk-provided VST adaptor specifically does NOT pass the transport and sync info properly (while DirectiXer does).

I get sync info just fine in my setup. Here's what I do:
I create a new DXi in DirectiXer (v. 2.5 demo), restart Sonar 4 (producer edition demo).
Then I add LiveSlice as a new DXi, and add a midi part to trigger an arrangement. When I start playback, the arrangement is played in sync with Sonar. If I restart playback, liveslice follows. I use ASIO drivers with a 6ms latency btw.

What audio driver are you using, ASIO, MME, WDM? What latency? Perhaps running the exact same settings as you will help me reproduce this (possible) bug.

hmmm. but if you change the tempo, does LiveSlice follow?
in fact, if i put a drum synth like microtonic or use DK+, it is playing at tempo and LiveSlice is playing out of sync.

if i set up the same thing in eXT, LiveSlice and the drum track sync up tight. and follow a new tempo if i change it.

i'm using RME HDSP 9652 ASIO at 6ms.

I didn't check tempo changes. They are perhaps reported in a different way by DirectiXer. I'll look at it again. Can you confirm that sync is ok if you don't use tempo changes?

sorry about being unclear. i don't even mean real-time tempo changes. i mean it is not playing to the set tempo.

i guess i was tryiing to explain that i was unclear from your example whether you had confirmed that it was, in fact, playing to the set tempo.

because at first i had assumed it was on tempo. then i added a drum track in SONAR and realized that the drum track was playing at tempo and LS wasn't.

so i changed the tempo from default 100 bpm to 170 and restarted SONAR. and LS continued to play at the same speed as before the tempo change, while the drum track obviously was playing much faster.

so that is when i tried all the same stuff in eXT and everything stayed sync'ed like i expected.

so that is when i sumbitted the bug report.

i'm surprised it works for you. but i would be delighted although embarrassed to find out i am in error.

HTH.
:)

hmmm... did you try changing the sync mode ("manual sync" button on the settings page)?

yes, i did. unfortunately, no difference.

this is really strange, considering that ohm cannot reproduce.

i'm hoping it's something simple as this thing is unbelievable. i mean, the more i play with it the more fun i'm having (in eXT that is :hihi: ). i own a lot of VSTi's but this baby is unique! i don't even know what i'm doing as far as the whole feature set yet but that doesn't stop me from getting all sorts of interesting sounds out of it.

Good news - I finally managed to reproduce and fix the bug.

It was something very simple and had to do with directiXer and sonar being very strict with tempo being linked to a certain song position.
I need to do some further testing as to how LiveSlice behaves when using dynamic tempo changes in sonar.
