Like the planet needs yet another overpriced product. Not impressed with humanity at this point.

You really haven't lived until you've seen an Infomercial in HD. Mere words cannot describe the life-like, nay, bigger-than-life cheeziness of an HD Informercial. Nor the dubious gig making cheezy soundtrack for HD Informercial...

Which format are they going for in old Blighty? We've chosen 1080p so as to take up all the existing bandwidth, thus keeping one Rupert M out of the game. We've had it for 3 or 4 years now and I don't know anyone who can receive it. You don't even see many HD-capable tele-sets in shops.
I read somewhere that you guys were smart and were only going digital, not HD. What happenned?

50" HD sets are now being sold as HD-ready for when Sky in the UK goes digital-hd (whatever that means) some time next year.

The picture quality I saw was awesome. I'd been told it was good, but nothing prepared me for the sheer clarity in a 50" screen.

It was like a hole in the wall I could fall into :o 8)

There were 3 models with the cheapest being £2,499.

Mrs Kevvvvvv said "not this year", so maybe next Xmas.

Question for anyone who knows: Will regular non-HD encoded DVDs look better when played back on a HD screen?

No. Grainy. When I was last in the HD edit suite staring at the $25K Sony HD monitors, anything less than 1080 HD looked ugly. Of course we were editing the HD format infomercial, so ugly is a relative term.
