I remember the buzz about this a few months ago, and there's been a couple of threads about GM soundsets recently. I have Omnisynth1 already, so I'm looking forward to OS2.

And while I'm at it, what about the Novachord/Clavioline/Solovox/etc set? :D

OmniSoundz 2 is coming. That's the same thing although it is offered in more formats than just ST2. We may even release it next month. I have to check. One really good bonus besides a 2 gig sized GM set is a nice healthy selection of GM mapped drums and percussion with multiple velocities. I think a lot of people would really like that. It could even be an esoundz exclusive product which will help people find this wonderful website! ;)

As for the obscure keyboards, we are working on that as well. In fact, I have a few surprises coming in this regard. Stay tuned.

I'm assuming the sounds in this version are totally new? Hmmmm... 2 gigs you say? Hmmmm... LOL.

Not a slam, but is it any easier to map to GM with the second version. I don't have trouble with it, being the smart clever person that I am, but I can understand that it may be difficult for others. And can it remember that it was in GM mode when brought up from a saved file?

If you are talking about the software features, those would be the same (SampleTank 2 LE's or ST2 full's). I am talking about just a new sound set which is larger in size, more dynamics, more samples, longer durations etc. The piano in this set is based on the one we did for the M-Audio Prokeys 88 Stage Piano (just larger). There are a bunch of really great sounds (a good all around set) plus a killer collection of GM drum kits.

Dang, now I have to decide: "ST2? or K2? or Dimension? or ?"

Actually, OmniSoundz may be one of the last products we offer in multiple formats (or at least this many... we're planning on offering ALL of the above plus more in OmniSoundz 2). This makes it a good universal product to have and collaborate with others in sequencing with whatever sampler they may own. We'll support the following:

ST2
Reason 2.5/3
HALion
EXS24
GarageBand
Dimension Pro/Project 5
Kontakt
Mach 5

Maybe a few others too. We'll see. Even if we add the formats later they will be free updates for this product... hence the OTHER "OMNI" aspect of it. ;)

Dang, that's a lot of work!

Hopefully your "good stuff" will stay in formats I can use, whether ST2 or K2 or Dimension. Refills don't do much for me :(

Not sure what that means. It will be pretty much the same basic high quality sounds (without a lot of extra programming though, initially anyway) in each of those formats. So the quality will be consistent.

Sounds good Squids.

I many be looking at getting myself into a little OmniSoundz mischief in the new year.

I still haven't decided whether OmniSoundz or ST2 sounds upgrade is going to be my best option given my current content. Will deal with the pain of that decision at a later date. ;)

I wasn't thinking about Omnisoundz, but your other sample sets - I may have missed it, but occasionally I think I see something that sounds like a cool sample set, but it's only in Reason format.

That's why when you said you're not going to be doing very many multi-format packages (other than Omnisoundz), that I hoped that "good stuff" is always available in some format I can use.

Well there's a good "reason" why Sonic Reality heavily supports Reason. From a synthesist's point of view it's a wicked package, it's dedicated to the art of sampling and synth sound design.

I know you seem to hate on it, and reading your sig I can see that even more, but keep in mind that Reason is one of the only pieces of software today that is truly modular in design and compared to a lot of other programs this is very unique. You can find that sort of thing in Reaktor but it's totally different and IMO not very accessible to producers like myself. I dont want to start a Reason discussion so much as just give you my two cents a little.

Post

Actually, I don't dislike Reason at all. It is just not where I'm going (I have FLS, Sonar, and P5V2, not looking for any more non-host hosts). Finding a nice sample set that's Reason-only isn't going to convince me to get it, just disappoint me a little bit. Just like software with dongles, at this point I'll just do without, but perhaps some day I'll revisit the decision.

OTOH, rewire is IMHO a hack. The fact that they limit documentation to commercial developers was just another mis-step, in my mind.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Omnisynth2.

OK i hear you man. but you'd have to admit that for most people, if they are going to buy a synth or sampler to play a certain sample set(like SR's), they'd get a killer package out of a Reason purchase compared to a lot of other sampler stations out there.
