Hi folks,

I'm trying to get an effect which I think should be fairly straight forward but I'm struggling with it....

I have one note of audio which I want to repeat as 16th notes but raising in pitch with each repeated notes, over a 2 bar section.

Question is, how do I do this? I guess I could just cut & paste the note & pitch shift each one, but that feels a bit :-o cumbersome & I'm not sure I'd get quite the effect I want with that anyway...

Can anyone suggest any plug-ins which may help with this or any other approaches pls?

cheers!

The traditional way to do this is with a pitch shifter, with the delay time set to the subdivision (in your case, 16th notes).

Look for the threads here on pitch shifters...

when the length of each note is of minor significance, why not simply use a sampler?

If you have a good Tape delay plugin, you can actually shorten the delay time with automation, and the pitch will rise naturally (as would a real tape delay if you increased the motor speed). That natural link between delay time and pitch might not be what you want though ...

Pitch shifting is something best done offline for real quality. I agree with the sampler idea. Either use the natural keyboard pitch shifting (where the sample simply speeds up or slows down), OR use multi samples that have been processed with a good offline pitch shifter. Actually, you could use multiple tracks instead of a sampler too.

Audio Damage DubStation will change the pitch as the delay time is changed, like the old analog delay boxes used to. Dunno if this helps you but hey, one more post on the old postcount.

ps. like what Greendoor was describing.

I'm wondering what Jane's Addiction used on Nothing's Shocking: during the intro of the first song, there is a monster 1/8th* delay on Perry Farrel's voice and you can hear it rising in pitch, but the tempo of the feedback remains unchanged. I've always meant to find out what it is, probably that very popular Korg rackmount or something.

But I digress; I'd like a delay that does that too. Don't know of one yet...although that Discord looks about right...
