Not only that, but everytime I hear the RIAA foaming at the mouth on how they need to protect the artists' rights, I just have to laugh... THEY INVENTED THE ART OF RIPPING ARTISTS OFF! Ask anybody signed to a major label.

From what I gather not a single cent, gathered from all these ant-piracy lawsuits, has made it's way into any artist's pocket. Par for the course.

In that case then perhaps you should be asking them for their opinion on the matter before you speak on their behalf.

I expect all except Norah would be bewildered by it all. I think Norah was one of Doug Cornell's protegés though, and I would expect her to be as ruthless about protecting her interests as any record company.

Just to be on the safe side, why don't you ring her up and double check on this. Then post back with the results.

SONY has now shown everyone the way.

According to their philosophy it's ok to install insecure software on
a persons PC without telling them.
It's OK to use open source software without acknowledging the license.
It's ok when you are caught out to, at first, to deny every thing and
try to lie your way out of it.

If we all follow Sonys example it's OK to do anything we want with music
and software ...because what their actions (which speak louder than words)
have shown is it's OK to do whatever you want as long as you don't get caught.

Do you all realize that the rootkit fiasco was not about piracy per se?
it was about stopping people from copying Sony/BMG music to the
oppositions (read Apple Ipod) portable music player.

Another irony is that it's the same corporations who make/distribute
the CDs who are also selling the MP3 players, mini disc recorders etc.

These corporations have NO MORAL VALUES WHATSOEVER!

They are quite prepared to use whatever law in whatever country to
hound and humiliate anyone who they perceive as diminishing their profit,
but, somehow they don't seem to think they should have to abide by
those same laws.

They are the real thugs and pirates!

a girl at work said she'd give me a compilation cd of some stuff she likes. i think it's a good idea. it exposes me to artists i haven't heard and i can decide if i want to buy or not. however, i buy form itunes. i never buy the whole cd. just being a smart consumer is depriving artists of money

thats how in the early days most of us heard new bands surely? a tape from a pal whos bro was a dj or such?
hell how many girlfriends did you make mix tapes for at school?cmon we all did,didnt we. even now ill knowck up cds with stuff i mention and my mates look blankly at me,one track by each band tho or maybe two
i cant see how that hurts anybody to be honest,most of my mates wouldnt ask to borrow stuff from me anyway as they know id say feck off,my cds dont leave my house,ever.(not anymore i have my reasons)
id never record a full cd for anybody no matter how much they asked,if they like the band that much they should buy the frickin cd

the only cd i have in my collection that is a copy is an album that went out of print, i emailed the artist himself and after a few back and forth emails he copied it for me wont tell you the artist r album as im sure he doesnt want to be inundated with requests

anyway sharing music isnt the same in my opinion as stealing music,my opinion aint a hill o beans tho if the record company says its a problem so maybe i should keep shtum

I love how new technology challenges old laws.

The corporations want the new tech to sell and make them
more profits but they don't want to give up the old ways

No - if i was to do something i wouldnt use weapons that dont blow people up.

Not that I would ever consider such a deed but if i was i'd think for efficiency.
