Deluded is a word that comes to minds :? .
Just in case anyone isn't 100% clear on this...this was sarcasm.

I'd love to see every record company go out of business and see artists produce and promote on their own. It's not like you need to even print cd's or distribute in stores anymore.

At that point artists could offer their whole CD for download for $5 and make 20x more than with labels.

The RIAA never seemed to have problems with people copying shit off the radio onto tapes, and people dubbing tapes in those 2 deck tape players. What the f**k is this all about then, seriously? Why is it such a big fuckin deal now with everybody when people have been doing this shit for yearrrsss, even you reading this i'm sure. If you tell me you haven't dubbed a song off the radio onto tape or off a CD or another tape, OR recorded something off of TV with a VCR...This is all bullshit, they all survived the VCR area, why is it all such a big fuckin deal now? They want they're moneys worth then ADAPT. I'm simply frustrated over this arguement because you are talking right into the wind, and nothing is gonna change. You can call those who d/l stuff any name you want and all, but it won't stop, that much i'm sure of. So why not just adapt, these companies need to stop crying and adapt to it, that's all they can do. Ain't like this hasn't all happened before.

Yeah, I agree. A Maschinengewehr MG3 is a much better choice of weapon for the task. :hihi:

No - if i was to do something i wouldnt use weapons that dont blow people up.

Not that I would ever consider such a deed but if i was i'd think for efficiency.
A flamethrower would be even better. Simple to construct and extremely effective in the close combat. Just wear some abestos suit first. But this is offtopic I think. :P

Actually, they started lobbying Congress long before that! They tried to keep Ampex from putting "compact cassette" into the consumer market.

Not to mention that there was an unsuccessful lobbying effort, a little while ago, to make it a criminal offense to record a TV show and remove the commercials from it. These greedy bastards are just desperately grasping at straws to inflate their earnings.

It's funny, they endlessly whine about piracy yet DVD sales now outrank the income from theatrical releases to the point where it is now their main source of income. Sales for DVDs are much greater than those for VHS ever were. It's just plain greed and stupidity.

Does anyone have any aversions about recording an FM or XM broadcast? Does anybody here tape their favorite TV shows? There's a lot of good points in this thread, but jesus christ!

The old folks here will remember the beginnings of FM broadcast. Before it became the vast empty bowl of shit that it is today, it used to have some merit. I can think of countless taping parties we had back then when FM stations would have "album hours" during the weekends. The King Biscuit Flower Hour, for example. No one was complaining. As a matter of fact, some stations would prompt you days ahead to be ready with a fresh tape for the weekend's offering. Not a peep from the labels.

Cast my vote on the RIAA propaganda theory. At any odds, most artists don't make their main income from album (disk) sales. By the time they pay back the advances for studio time, production, pressing plant, video shoots, etc. there's not much money left unless everything goes triple platinum. Live performance and touring have the most potential to make an artist a decent living.

Personally, I think it's bullshit. If a friend wants some tunes that I have, then by god I'll give them some tunes...just like the old days with a cassette tape...back when the industry still had a firm grip...which is slowly slipping away due to lack of substance, originality and the inability to plan ahead. God, I can't belive how far this whole piracy thing is going. I should have seen it coming when John Fogerty got sued for sounding like himself.

It takes me so long to type, some of my rant has already been spewed!

A corporations sole, and only, purpose is to create profit for its shareholders. Legal and moral obligation only comes into play when it benefits the corporation.

This is why you see British Petroleum, for example, embracing the Kyoto accord, "leading the way" in enviro-marketing yet refusing to state that they will not drill in the National Wildlife Refuge....a seeming contradiction until you consider the edicts that all corporations are built on.

From my point of view corporations are just a mirror, a reflection of our societies ever evolving values.

What happens when the primary concern of American shoppers is price? Walmart.
When people want cheap and fast food? Mcdonalds.
What happened when Supersize Me came out and caused an uproar? Mcdonalds took the supersize option off its menu.

We say jump, they say how high.

I also feel that the demonization of P2P systems has a lot to do with the recording industry's fear that artists will be able to distribute their music directly to the public in an extremely powerful and effective manner. This would eventualy render the labels useless. Face it, they're basicaly just pimps that control the access and distribution of goods to the consumers. Once they lose their control of that, their days are numbered. I really believe that part of their posturing on this issue has a lot to do with laying down the groundwork to eradicate any competition on their monopoly over the distribution proccess.

I am intrigued by Gandhi's quote in your sig... what did he mean when he said that?
I guess it was a slightly tongue in cheek, witty comment on a Western society that was opressing his supposedly "uncivilized" people.

Thing is... I love my friends enough that any sense of wrongness with sharing stuff goes straight out the window.

I wonder if the same is true with Lebaron.

By that reasoning, it should be an acceptable practice to pirate audio apps, just as long as it is only one or two apps/vstis/vsts from each of the companies!

Voxengo has sooo many good vsts though, I'll have to choose my quota carefully!

Heh... Sorry Vurt... Just having some fun!
