I used to use a lot smartelectronix Nyquist 5 bands eq. Nice sound, beautiful gui, but not accurate reading of the frequencies at first sight.
Then, there had a huge buzz around POsihfopit : awesome eq with an incredible bunch of features, but also a few bugs...
Now, i see that everybody seems to acclaim Plpar eq, (which payware version costs really a lot of money), but a 3 band version is free. It is aimed at being very precise and musical, but it is alos very cpu-hungry.
I was wondering who thought it worthed keeping them 3 on my HD and why ? Is plpareq soooo much better in sound quality ? I did not notice...
Is there a really difference in the soud quality (even if the comparison is a bit difficult, as posihfopit has many types of eq, and some are not really transparent)..

i only use nyquist eq, its by far the best eq plugin avaible, just its method doesn't suit some people. The great thing about it is that it helps your ears against fatigue by compensating for your eq movements, which is a godsend if you have to do any work in headphones.

I'd say it depends. If you want to MAKE sound then Posihfopit in analog mode. If you want to KEEP your sound while changing frequencies then PLParEQ. I never liked the way NyquistEQ works.
For PLParEQ: Try boosting a lo shelf on a mix or a drum group while using max quality. This is just big. Same for a hi shelf, sounds just nice and not harsh. Switch between PL and non-PL to see what you like more.
Best wishes, FRitz

In the end will be the word.

I kept posihfopit (very good, with character, no latency) AND PLParEQ 3-band(superb HiFi-Quality, high latency) as my only EQs.
posifopit for live input and mixing when no latency, less CPU-usage or this special character of posifopit is needed (e.g. analog or screaming-mode for e-bass or certain drum sounds). It also has more bands if needed. Only bearable for me with a different skin (eg. numbers)
PLParEQ is IMO VERY high quality but also with a high latency and still relativly high CPU usage (ongoing optimization efforts...) So I see it especially for mastering but also for important tracks while mixing (you need proper plugin delay compensation).
Tested Nyquist EQ but deleted it just because of personal taste and because I want to keep things as simple as possible to concentrate on the music.

I find that I'm using SpinEQCM these days. Free with computer music mag. (or maybe you have to buy a back issue??? not sure, anyone ?? )
I find it flexible, musical and easy to use.

I mainly use posifphit & also spineq free version (you get it with every version of cm now - well ,low cpu footprint - okish for small cuts & seperate left & right channel can be useful).

Yes, but it's only a demo version and the sound cuts out periodically.scuzzphut wrote:I find that I'm using SpinEQCM these days. Free with computer music mag. (or maybe you have to buy a back issue??? not sure, anyone ?? )

no it doesn't - you get the reg number from the spinaudio site & it's good to go.
There is more info. on computer musics website.

Every eq plugin I've tried sounds different. I tend to like the ones with lots of character, but have several clean ones I like too.
Grist for the glamour mill.

and you seriously think that, if that was the case, I wouldn't have noticed ????lion_cub wrote:Yes, but it's only a demo version and the sound cuts out periodically.scuzzphut wrote:I find that I'm using SpinEQCM these days. about plugin latency ... it near to 200 ms for PLParEQ and so it is useless e.g. for live playing through a virtual guitar amp combined with that EQ, that's all. You won't recognize while mixing if your host supports plugin delay compensation.politcat wrote:wahchoo tawkin bout?!!!naturestoned wrote:PLParEQ is IMO VERY high quality but also with a high latency

yes... thanks for all that opinions...
And what about the sound quality of WWAYM NWEQ ?
It is free too and very well reviewed, but i can't get liking it with that very small gui, and not very grafic eq interface... the sound is not bad... but i have never found a very bad eq...
So, how can you tell that a eq is soooo good or too bad ?
The sound is not that warmer, would i need very very very accurate speakers to tell that plpareq or nwam nweq is so much better thatn, let's say, posihfopit ?
Posihfopit were free, now it got released under an other name (and a little less bugs) for about 80 bucks... is its price making it better than a 50 euros plugin ?
This is the thing i don't really understand, especially when I see the price for the full version of Plpareq...
I do not make drastic equliisations so that i hear phase troubles... i use it to boost or cut about 2-6db some frequencies in each track of my mix to make it sound better.. I need something quite precise and accurate, but i nverreally understand why some are so expensive, and why some can create such a big buzz for rather similar products...

yes.no it doesn't - you get the reg number from the spinaudio site & it's good to go.
I have installed it, i have a serial sent by spinaudio, but i do not see any "register" box... so how to register it ? (i remember now i did not keep such an eq as i did not get it was not a demo, and got bored very quickly with the sound fading out...).
thnax.
ok, now it works...

I believe the version on the CM mag is a demo & you need to d/l the other version from the CM or spinaudiuo site - I may be wrong, it's a bloody long time since I installed it.
From what I remember once installed the next time you start your host it will ask for the authorisation code.
