I don't really know the music you're referring to so I'll have to take a guess as to what you want, but I'd say a kind of whine could be achieved by playing around with the actual pitch using an LFO, or the pitch bend.

That's just the filter resonating. Play with the resonance knob and cutoff fliter knob if the synth has it to get that sound. Do realize that not all synths are created equally and won't sound like that either.

Here's an example of MiniMonsta in action tweaking thr filter. I'm assuming this is what you're after?

just use a saw wave, play it monophon, tweak the filter with high resonance, and use a distotion/tube effect after it. best is a synth, where you can use an inbuildt filtersaturation fx. but if the line you wanna play is mono (like in your example track posted), it doesn`t matter too much, if you use an external plugin for the saturation/distortion/overdrive).

use my synths - ask me to make one for you - i like feedback - seriously - give me an idea of what you are talking about (send me like a three page email!) and I'll see what we can't do. I was gonna work on a siren - the schematic is in french. so - wacky lead synth?

The synth on that track is either a 303 or an Mc202, its probably the latter and theres some sync going on with high resonance on the filter, its a pretty bog standard effect thats easy to create on a 202 and 303 because of the way you can program in slews and glide to individual notes on a sequence, standard "whines" if thats what you wanna call them can be easily reproduced by crancking up the resonance on the filter then manually turning the cutoff frequency of the filter up and down, a harder whine or sync sound can be had by syncing oscillator 1 to oscillator 2 or vice versa if your synth of choice provides this feature, as for the nifty note programming, that i cant help you with, you'll just need to put in a bit of effort

To me it just sounds like a non-enveloped ramp wave that is loaded with resonance and then overdriven. That way when the cutoff is lowered a bit, the higher frequencies are amplified into the distortion to creat a nice squelchy sound.
I could be wrong though

Try my filter on it:
http://admiralquality.dynu.com/vstdev/?whine
A fine whine indeed (IMHO).
Oh, wait a sec, I was thinking that by "whine" you meant resonance. But listening to that track now (and by my hippie definition, it's not psychedelic at all!
) I'm guessing that the whine you want is created by pulse width modulation of an oscillator by a slow LFO. Could also be oscillator sync where the sync'ed oscillator's pitch is being modulated by envelope or LFO. This is typically how you make your synth say "wow". What you're hearing there is a very slow "wow".
You mention chorus, but a phaser might be closer if you wanted an effect that does this. But I'm 99% sure what you're hearing in that clip is actually PWM or oscillator sync, not an effect after the filter, and not the synth's filter (or resonance) itself.
Oh well, try my filter anyway.

baniev - building yet another synth - let me know any features you'd like - mod routes etc.

A good lowpass resonance filter and a oscicollator with saw wave.dover666 wrote:baniev - building yet another synth - let me know any features you'd like - mod routes etc.
