Hello from electronisounds.com!
Have a minute to answer a quick question for us?
We're beginning to adapt some of our .wav format sample CD's into other plug-in formats.
What format are you personally most interested in getting new sounds/samples/presets in?

depends.

As an FL Studio user, I prefer drums in wav (actually all the drums i use are in wave), but if it's a multisampled piano or something it would need to be a soundfont.

I tend to prefer wave or soundfont. This leaves open plenty of options to me in how I use samples. Restrictive formats can be a pain so I tend to avoid them.

What happened to "none of the above"?

.WAV files with an sfz format mapping would be good. EXSC can convert that to lots of other formats and the mapping is plain text so those who don't want EXSC can still do their own mappings.

Oh probably wave, because some of those on the list are pretty hexy. Soundfonts easiest on that list to digest. There is a few others that you havn't included on your list, I don't know?

Here is an idea though, you have a number of formats, and a person buys the format that they want at the full fee, and if they need it in another format they then get it at a minimal fee, that is just cost and a little bit more. That is you pay for it with the first copy and the others you pay for the cost of it.

I would also prefer the SFZ format. (For anyone who doesn't know, it's a collection of standard WAV (or OGG) files, along with a single "SFZ" text file which describes how and when your sampler should play the various WAV files. The sound quality of this format can be much higher than a soundfont. It also has a huge amount of potential for programming depth, if you want elaborate sample mapping.

I've choosen refills because Reason is my playfield and the compression is very useful. but an open wav folder containing halion's fxb, kontakt's nki, reason nnxt's sxt, sfz and every "open" sample format is muuuuch more welcome and makes everybody happy.

He's right and I know it and I hope that format starts getting the respect it deserves. Meaning more offers in this format for our sampling pleasure.

About two months ago I posted a poll about converting some sound formats I have to either soundfont, sfz, and Wusik. The outcome at that time, and my inclination, were to go with Wusik, although sfz was also attractive.

This was before WilliamK's issues arose, before Eve One came out with native Wusik sound support, and before I got P5V2, which has Dimension that can read sfz format files.

Since that time, while I still like the Wusik format, I would probably choose something "more open" like sfz, that can be converted to Wusik, rather than pure Wusik format. For what it's worth, I have EXSC.

Bringing this thread back from the dead - Cakewalk Dimension Pro was just released as a VST (cakewalk finally gave into VST) and it's native multisample format is SFZ; both the format and Dimension is the creation of Rene: z3ta+.

I just got my copy of Dimension Pro a couple of days ago and I'm telling ya...it's an awesome synth/sampler (combined) allowing a wide range of further sound design/tweaking.

I just checked your site and I didn't see anything regarding SFZ format, so I'd thought I'd give you the heads up on that. There's more info, of course, at the Cakewalk site and forum.

SO...my vote goes to the SFZ Format as well.

also, why not just have the sample set inside it's own plug? like the 4front piano and simular plugs?

Unless it's drums in which case i personally would still prefer it to be in wav..
