Ever make a mockup/demo of your tune, only to realize that when you go to do the 'real' takes, they can't seem to touch the ones on the mockup?

I have one song which puts me in such a situation, but the problem is that the original takes had noisy guitar. My ap't has lots of EMI, and the guitar I had on-hand was single-coil. Now that I have my hum-cancelling option again, I'm trying to do the re-takes, but it's just not capturing the same vibe.

:(

Normally I'd say, "screw it, vibe is more important", but these really ARE noisy. Plus, it gets repeated a lot... (I just did one verse take and used it each time there was a verse, for example).

Grr.

Just wanted to vent.

Use the original. The noise may be part of what makes it cool. Then again if the noise really bugs you use some Noise Reduction software or gate on it.

Overdub more, similar parts with MORE noise and distortion, to make it seem like it was an intentional effect. "Hey, I MEANT to do that!" 8) Or de-noise it in your audio editor?

are you trying to completly re-do the tune or just the noisey guitar tracks?

if you really want to keep the guit tracks, i believe you may be able to use some hum-canceling software to clean 'em up....the stuff i've seen is pretty expensive, perhaps a kind soul on KVR would perform the janitorial task for you....

Yeah, I actually had some-- now it's all cleaned up with Acoustica's NR algorithm.

But the problem of repetition remains. :(

And yeah, it's just the guitar tracks that are getting redone.

I looped the song 5 times and played it all the way through, for future comping needs, and I actually had a good vibe going... I was quite happy about the takes! BUT... although I thought I had checked levels, each of the 5 passes was heavily digitally clipped.

Maybe one more try. ;)

can't cure clipping...

Nope. :( Sucks, too, because after overcoming the hurdle of 'capturing the vibe', I go back only to discover that I've clipped the shit out of it all.

Didn't get to retry today. Maybe tomorrow.

Also, in the mockup I just used a clean electric guitar as a placeholder for what was meant to be an acoustic. But now I think I prefer the clean electric. ;)
