i had heard of the "tight and shiny", glad to know it wasn't simply urban myth...

but don't forget david yow! he's the guy who adds the atonal wail/punk rock vibe to the band...without him JL would be lumped in with all the other "math rock" bands...as talented as the musicians are, they understand a good front man can be the focal point, the audio punctuation and anchor of the songs, the "gimmick" that attracts fans, ie the reason we are even discussing jesus lizard as opposed to ending up some guys that played a few local shows their friends attended... besides, as gimmicky as he may appear to some, the JL instrumentalists most likely WANT that type of post-iggy (added to "red" era king crimson) element in their big, bad ass rock'n roll band...is it that hard to understand?

Hard to understand? (looks confused).....no....I was just trying to tell someone that might have found David Yow alienating (I mean, he isn't exactly pretty, is he?) that there was more to the band than their clever, drunken front man.

But as Duane Denison was the one who got the band together, I would have to say you were right about what the band wanted from a frontman.

Have you heard (DD's new band) Tomahawk? It's a 'super group' with John Stanier (the drummer from Helmet), the Melvins (ex) Bassist Kevin Rutmanis, and Mike Patton.

a lot of the high end producers out there are actually really skilled. kids twenty years from now might look back and see the great ones where we found ourselves too drowned in the mud and/or poo making up most of the pop/trend music industry. look at any good artist from the 80s, even with the great ones you probably can only pick two or three tracks off each album that are really great. the others tend to be fit directly into the trends of the day. the industry never changes, only the styles of trends change, the industry adapts. of course, you can also find a ton of totally awesome stuff made in almost any period if you dig deep enough, this stuff is usually behind the scenes and doesnt fit with the trends, so you cant really see it clearly until much later.

SOAD: Mesmerize/Hypnotize: will go down as one of my favorite albums of all time! I've never been addicted to music this way. Everyone thinks they've sold out, but they have just evolved...like any great artists tend to do. This is the ultimate Pop Metal1!!! I almost think of it as my generation's "The Wall". Can't say enough good stuff about it.
