I have a huge set of presets for this compressor and will try to release them at some point. I'll try to make them as "real world" as possible, that is, I'll only release presets that I've used myself in various mix situations. I'm currently mixing a rock/pop recording that will be using Marquis on nearly everything. This should inspire me to produce some good presets for the most basic tasks (drums, bass, electric guitar, vocals, various sub groups, etc).

With a complex plugin like Marquis (though I don't think it's complex at all :)) it's good to have presets where the user can quickly start dialing in the amount of compression wanted.

Cheers!

Thanks - looking forward to this.

Alexey, is there still room for optimization with this plugin? I wouldn't call it a cpu hog but the cpu consumtion is nonetheless a little above the competition, as far as I have noticed. I am aware that the sound quality probably is too, that you get what you pay for, blablabla. That said, can it be still optimized even more?

Post

loomchild, to put it short, no. It is as optimized as I can get it.

There's no real sense to compare it to other compressors in CPU use aspect. I can produce compressors that are even more efficient than the competition, but that was never my goal.

You may use T3 mode with the Clean coloration - that way it's not much more CPU hungry than, for example, Kjaerhus GCO-1.

Do not forget that CPU use is heavy with UI open. Otherwise it's much lower.

yes I understand that. Thank you for your prompt response.

Talking about the UI, any chances it get a sexier one? I know, that sounds stupid but I know several people that won't even bother try it only because of it, and that's a shame really.

BURNY, not in the nearest time for sure. UI may be updated in the future.

Sorry to tell it, but as I see this, when Pro Sound people check the UI first and refuse to try the plug-in because of its look, that means to me that they are not really into sound. So, I do not bother to protect my mental health.

Blimey, I just don't get the whole dissatisfaction with the GUIs. Check it out...the inside of a bloody Chieftan Main Battle Tank is prettier than this thing.

I second that. I like them as they are.

I think it is well known that Voxengo GUI's are functional rather than flashy. Let it be that way... :)

LMAO!! Good one Aleksey.

In all honesty, the argument about what has a better UI an 1176 or LA2A vs Marquis isn't fair, because the former are both so much more limited than the latter. I would love it if a PC developer released a two-knob, one-button compressor that sounded great at all the available settings, but this isn't Marquis (or even GCO-1 for that matter). I think it's a question of how much functionality do you want as an end user? Do you want to control attack, release, and knee's as well as perhaps saturation and filtration, or do you want something quick and easy that sounds good? In all honesty, I think both camps have got points as to what they want, and why. Marquis, or GCO-1 though, don't seem to be the easy comps, but I don't think that Alesky or Torben, would be wrong for approaching later plug-ins more along the lines of the classic comps that only had a few settings, but were hard to make sound bad. If I had the choice though, I'd want a compressor that did more and left me wanting less, but there's still a great deal to be said in having a compressor that does a lot with very little in the UI. Anyway, that's just some drunken rambling...
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Yes, please, bmaniac, and any other golden ear boys out there!! I'm more of a preset tweaker than an in depth user, so the more presets, the better! And that goes for all the plugs! I was a bit shocked to not see more individual drums, bass, vocals etc on most of the Voxengo preset lists...

out of curiosity, what is T1 modelled after, it's the punchiest envelope curve I've ever heard.
