Been a while since I checked in. Any update on the soundset?

Cheers!

Hurricane slowed us down a little. There were a few tweaks we wanted to do to the Imap kits in there. It's done though now so it will be available very soon. Both SR and IK Italy worked on it together so it is a nice update.

Hi Squids,
This has surely been covered already, but what % of the new sounds will actually be new?

Well, about several gigabytes or so. Mostly a lot of tastes of the other libraries though such as a bit of Philharmonik and a bit of the ST libraries. Then there are some cool world instruments, misc licks and phrases, percussion, Church organs... however the sounds were gone through and improved as well. So, I think the upgrade is a very good deal (not to mention being free for people who bought it since it was announced or whenever that cutoff point was).

But, the percentage of new never before heard sounds is not meant to be THAT large. That's not what this was about (at least not this version). It was about going through it and weeding a few things out, making things sound better etc. For instance, when we did the original ST2 IMap drum sounds they came out too quiet in the parent sounds. But, that's because they had no effects and also the macro settings were to the wrong default. Nothing that couldn't be tweaked to one's liking in a matter of seconds but I never liked it so we changed it to be more like the child patches were... stuff like that. Maybe there was an issue here and there that was fixed up and it is overall an improved sound set!

Speaking of iMaps Squids, what are the chances of some tutorial videos? The 1 or 2 vids I've seen of you using iMap are simply amazing. I really like the imap format because I can get much more expressive performances versus the normal midi drum layout, but I'm still having a hard time having the toms so far from the kick and snare. (granted, I'm not REAL familiar with keyboards) I know you are up to your arse in stuff and the last thing you need is another project, but I thought I'd ask anyway. :)

Thanks,

Josh

I have a better answer for you guys on what's new in ST2.1 soundwise. Overall it is about 31% new sounds. 222 new parent sounds that weren't in the first one and half of them are sounds from ST libraries and half are new. Plus a bunch of new child presets as well. Here's the breakdown:

ST2.1 Library Size
DVD1 (GB) 2.01
DVD2 (GB) 4.38
Total: 6.39

Parent Sounds
DVD1 349
DVD2 588
Total: 937

Sound Breakdown (Parent Sounds)
Orig. Library 715
Sounds from ST libs 107
New Sounds 115
Total: 937

Total Sounds (including child presets)
Parent Sounds: 937
Child Presets: 843
Total: 1780

Cool Dave. So will this update completely replace the 2.0 sound set?

--slightly related question

I'm on the verge of buying a bundled ST 2 XL and SS2 at a local music store here in the UK. I was wondering with the imminent release of extra samples would I be paying much to upgrade once they are out? .. would I be entitled to upgrades/crossgrade promotions from the esoundz website for instance?

it should be free for users registered after 1 jan 2005...
