It's true that I'd have to test it to see if subjectively it was an annoyance, though there are factors involved in string physics that go beyond what your position is based on---it's not a matter of belief.

Yes it does.
Fill up a bottle half way and then pump out all the air from it.

Nylon stretches worse than steel. I find it takes many. many retunings with new nylon strings to get them stable.

If you want to know if nylon stretches, go grab a pair of panty hose (don't do anything gross with them, though

Are you talking about something normal, like going from a D-tuing to an E-tuning? Or are you talking about doing some crazy Nashville style? If you tune really sharp, you probably want a luthier's opinion on your neck, and there are probably bridge considerations too.

But if you're just going from EADGBE to DADGAD or whatever, that's pretty normal, and until you wear a sweet spot into one of your heads or something, you'll be fine.

What you are describing here is tension differences between the two sides of the nut.
This can be greatly improved by changing the nut to a high quality one.

That may well be the case and I will take your word on it. I don't know much about nuts and bolts of guitars (if you will excuse the pun).

To put it in perspective though, my acoustic cost $150 Australian (wedding present from my wife) and my electric cost around $400 Australian (a funky little J&D strat knock off that gives a nice sound for the price). I play for my own enjoyment and the only people who hear my guitar playing are my wife (she can't avoid it sometimes when I practice) and my guitar teacher (and mabye my neighbours sometimes).

I'm fairly convinced high quality nuts would be overkill in my instance.

You could try a fossilized walrus ivory nut. I have one but haven't installed it yet. I put the walrus ivory bridge on my acoustic and then gave it to my dad.

I have an Ibanez SA260:

Cost me £280 - roughly $470, but I've seen it cheaper for £245.

I really love how it plays. My Pod 2.0 arrived yesterday morning, and combined with my VOX Valvetronix, my setup is sounding pretty sweet.

I use various tunings: EADGBE standard, DADGBE, drop-D, BADGBE, BEDGBE, drop B/E, and CGCFAD, drop C (I think that's what it's called)

So it's not like I'm doing anything too wild.

As a side note, I learnt some Porcupine Tree riffs last night, specifically Open Car and Shallow, from their Deadwing album.

I'm a little scared at becoming a guitarist.. I mean, I don't want my electronic music to go to the wayside, I want to do both, just don't know if I will manage.

Is it bad to constantly retune a guitar to different tunings
