Best VST sampler for use with Cubase?

I am looking to find something fairly straightforward that will allow me to create a library of my own created sound effects (wav/SDII/aiff format) to be triggered via MIDI. Im new to samplers in general, but have been using my own sounds using time consuming drag and drop placement. No real-time on the fly sound placement here! This needs to end.

Ive done a search on this site and come up with a few promising leads among the freeware choices. If anyone has direct experience with one of those in conjunction with cubase, I would like to hear about it.

Halion 3 is possibly the only one i can think of.

I use Reason 3,and the NNXT sampler in it is superb,and can be Re - wired into Cubase.
