well, if you didn't get what they're for (at least in Shlomo's video) there's no use in tallking with you about anything

I found that clip I mentioned.
yeah, now that was pretty cool, actually. i mean, it went somewhere, it built to something.

maybe i've only happened to see the worst of what's available. educate me on what i should hear. everytime i see beatboxers, they're solo or only featured in part of a song. anything you can recommend other than this?

what what's for? what are you talking about? oh, the hand movements? yeah, i got them. one was moving clothes around in a washing machine, one was stacking books in a shelf, and i really like the one where he was pretending to wipe down a table. and wasn't there one where he was throwing a frisbee upside down or something? :hyper:

I listened to the drum and bass one and I have to say I wasn't that impressed.

I was impressed the most by the trance one. It was the first impressive 4x4 beatboxing I've heard EVER.

WTF? Have you heard ANY remotely expressive musician that stood exactly still? all the best performances I've ever seen featured the musician to be all over the place, from grunty metal screamers to violinists...
yes: tom harrell. in the videos i've seen of john coltrane, he stood still, too. miles davis didn't stand totally still all the time, just kinda wondered around the stage, but didn't bounce around like an idiot. saw jim hall in concert once, too. he sat down the whole time. the list goes on...
the list goes on? from the 2+1/2 people you mentioned?

Even good, non-musical speakers (giving speeches) are all over the place, except for stephen Hawking...

I believe so. The point has been stressed multiple times in band at middleschool and the music theory I've taken this year.

western/north american culture, MOST asian, Most African, and I leave out south american because I dont know anything about south american music. 4/4 time signature in music are like archetypes in stories - it is in the apparent majority of music, even in isolated cultures.
There's just somehting the human mind likes about the number 4 in music..

yes, it does go on. lists generally do start out with just a couple items, you know. here's a list of kinds of cheese: american, cheddar, swiss... the list goes on. see?

but even naming ONE remotely expresssive musician is enough cuz you asked "Have you heard ANY remotely expressive musician..." and one is any. in fact, i named over twice as many as you asked for because i named 2+1/2.

here's an amusing story: a buddhist monk was once said to have attained perfect mastery of the flute (end-blown or transverse, i don't know), so a local magistrate asked the monk to come perform for him. the monk came to the palace, stood in front of the magistrate, pulled a flute from his robe, and, standing perfectly still, played a single short note and left (from "zen flesh, zen bones").

you're misunderstanding me. i don't care if people are moving while they're performing or speaking. i like pat metheny, and he jumps around like crazy. but when pretending to scratch a record while making a record-scratching sound is cool instead of gimmicky, count me out. imagine a guy imitating a trombone with his mouth while pretending to operate an imaginary slide.

The trance thing was cute. This guy's pretty original.

Not sure how well he'd stand up to Rahzel or Kela in the technique area.

I could hold still playing one single note, too.

It was more me than you, and this discussion between us started as misinterpretation, anyway :P
