I have Sonik Synth 2 and Sampletank 2XL(also get the free dvd 2.1 sounds when released). I was looking into the couple of hip hop expansion tanks, which the demos sounded pretty good. It seems like they are all loops though, which is alright. I havn't done hip hop for awhile and am looking at getting back into it, I mostly do metal and hard rock now and everything I have is fine for that. I was also looking at getting the Symphony Strings one as well. Is anybody using these along with having ST2XL and SS2? I already spent quite a bit on those. Anyway, any input would be good.

I can't give any opinion on any of the hip hop Expansion Tanks. I will however give a vote of confidence to Symphony Strings. I've got v1 of Symphony Strings and the quality of that is damn fine for the price. If you're looking for solo strings though, I'd suggest you look elsewhere or look at something like Philharmonik or GPO or other specialised orchestral libraries.

It's a good library of groups of players though and sits well in a mix (like all Sonic Reality products seem to do). I think it would work well in metal and hard rock for those moments when you want some symphonic strings in the background.

I'm no expert on the subject, but I hope that helps some.
