Yeah, starting to slip myself up here too.

KRK is great, but if you do base heavy music you will
need a sub, that pretty much holds true for all sizes
bellow 8.

Like techno/dance/rap and such, where you have a lot of
low FREQ stuff going on.

Also Rokit seems the better choice as it has more HF
settings.

ok! thanx for the tip.

The only size 8 monitors in my list are the behringer truths.. I wonder if they may give me that bass end that I suscpect will come in handy!

Post

Also, may i add, it depends on the size and the setup of the room you're gonna put them in. I've been in a small size room where the guy had gone with the truth 8" monitors (to get the bass end) and really the levels were too much to handle, and anything you played sounded so huge and booming, but too tiring to work with. mind you it was a small room, nothing really bad to say about the sound of them.

Once more. Buying a quality pair of monitors is always MUCH prefered than going for something crap that you later will regret. Also, re-sale value doesn't stay at all on the bad ones.

If you are on a budget, then at least stretch to around 600 euros and try to get the mini 8020 genelecs. They are good, portable and you could easily take them into a multi million studio without people laughing at you. :P

Seriously, rather save up and get good monitors or none at all. You will just do more harm than good to your music otherwise. If music making is just a small hobby that you don't really care for that much, then by all means, get the behringer.

Musicmaking is more than a small hobby to me. So far I have been making music monitoring through hifi-speakers, but now I think they just arent good enough. My plan is to buy new daw, but wouldnt it be weird if didnt change monitors too? I think there will be a great positive change, even if I buy "budget" monitors. But bmanic is probably right about saving for genelecs. Only problem is (I`m kind of impatient:) ) I will have to wait a long while before I can afford both new daw and more expensive monitors.

Im presuming you dont know who Chris Huelsbeck actually is then?

whyterabbyt: hehe maybe he doesnt? actually I dont either, but I have read his name in some videogame-magazine.

Does anyone know (you are welcome to answer yourself Mr Huelsbeck) if C Huelsbeck composes any orchestral music? Btw, I think he owns expensive mackie monitors too, so maybe he isnt as "budgie" as he may seem? He´s a fake budgie! :P

Check also the Tannoy Reveals. They have recently released a new series so the old ones can be found new for next to nothing.

Btw, I will be using the monitors in a medium/small-sized room. With only furniture and some pieces of material/fabric on some of the walls, to make the acoustics better. I ask myself, maybe budgie monitors are better for my "budgieroom"? If I had a real studio built, then the genelecs would be a good choice? maybe..

will check it out, invitia!

bmanic, even though the 8020's sound pretty amazing, they simply do not go very low, 66 Hz - 20 kHz (± 2.5 dB.) Everything between these figures is pretty much excellent, and they are very loud for their size, but they give very little accurate information on stuff around 50Hz and below... Might be just fine for video or spoken word applications, but I can't see how one is supposed to mix electronica without the accompanied sub. I think Genelec pretty much admits this, too, and emphasize the role of the 7050 sub in their marketing.

For 600 one can get Blue Sky Mediadesk 2.1, which has gotten only glowing reviews AFAIK, and quoted to be on par with the 8030's (Music Tech, I think).

That said, I still consider the white 8020's and using my old active sub :) those are def the best looking monitors I've seen, and as they end up in our living room...

Blue Sky Media Desk 2.1! Maybe that´s what Im looking for! (will not even have to stretch my budget)

Post

They may be smaller, but hopefully Media Desk have the same build quality as my System One - give 'em a try. Full range monitoring at a nice price and a nice size - my System One is to big for me room!

More opinions are welcome!
I just checked the manual that came with my RP-6's, and it states a frequency response of: 45Hz - 20KHz which is a little lower (ie better!) than what you quoted. I think its quite easy to get carried away with the 'more bass is better' argument because, when all is said and done, the monitor is there to display your music, not colour it. Honestly, I think you'd find the bass more than adequate. Of course, its all in the listening though :)
