I'm on a PC so for now so I can't try it out but i've had Colortone Free for a while now and have been using it all the time. For drums I run The SSL model into the LA-3 and increase the input on both then set the colour level to whatever it needs, I find I get some really nice results this way.

Anyway I wanna know what people think of the pro version I'm sure its good :)

i tried their free plugins, but they don`t seem to work in logic 5.5.1 on pc ...
the pluggo runtime did not help. the gui was not shown correctly, so to say, only a part of it was displayed ...
any suggestions? i`m really interrested in those ... anybody got them to work successfully in logic 5.5.1 pc?

Did you try the final release version? (was released today)
Did you put the DLL's inside the Plugo folder? (just to be sure)

By the way I have not found a use for this plug yet (I have other similar stuff) but it sounds very convincing to my ears.

There's no pro demo for pc (download page just brings up a mac link, no windows).

The free version doesn't appear to do anything.

Phase reversed wet/dry comparison reveals such a subtle difference as not to really matter for anything. =(

Smells like a bit of mac snobbery.

I don't think snobbery has anything to do with that. It'd rather blame the fact that a lot of max msp extensions haven't been ported to Windows _yet_ or will even ever be ported. As far as I have understood, the Hydratone stuff is made of max msp patches.

Post

Pluggo was ported to windows, and that had to have used a hell of a lot of extensions.

That's what I thought too. I could hear something happening when I tweaked the controls, but not much. I couldn't concretely identify what was happening and wouldn't be able to differentiate wet from dry signal in a blind test.

Post

If I lower the input, raise the output as much as I can, and raise the "color" slider to max, the effect is more pronounced, still really subtle (especially considering I turned everything up to the maximum level) and nothing amazing IMO.

Putte, could you give some examples of how you used it til now? I'm curious, it seems more a subtle tool for sound engineers, with a good monitoring system.

The free one's nothing to write home about, imho. ymmv and all that schnitzel.

I thought the same thing. I couldn't hear much happening with the free version. I compared it to my UAD-1 plugins and could tell straight away when one of those was in the signal path. I've heard subtle effects but this takes the biscuit. :?

I'm listening on a pair of HR-824s in a small, semi-insulated room, and I still think the effect is too subtle to matter unless you really push it. Even then, it's nothing amazing. I didn't go "wow!" like I do with some great plugins (<3 marquis comp).

Maybe a windows demo of the pro version would change my mind.

 "Subtle differences" are now a sign of mac snobbery
