As many have noticed, the UAD Pultec plugin does really nice things to a signal simply by being inserted and turned on. It acts almost as an exciter, but a very subtle and nice-sounding one.
Are there any other plugs that do something similar? There are times when I think I could almost do without my UAD card if I could just get around my love of the Pultec "only on" sound! It's addictive once you've heard it...

Lazlo, you could capture this sound by processing a sinesweep tone with Pultec Pro and then using deconvolution. You can use the resulting impulse file with any convolver then. You may trim the impulse while it still sounds OK so that it does not take too much CPU resources.

If it's adding harmonics, I don't think it's likely that an impulse response would accurately capture the behaviour. You'd get frequency and phase response, but any excitation/distortion would either not show up at all or be remaindered during deconvolution.
It's still a good idea, and might have a nice result.
