...well, I do but it is usually talk radio...sports and news. I am just so sick of hearing classic rock and light rock and rap and r and b. It's the same shit over and over. I really need someone to point me in the right direction here because I want soemthing fresh. I'm not really into jazz and country is just rock and roll's poor cousin. Blue's is ok but if your not in the mood, well it doesn't exactly pick you up.

Suggestions lads!!! Give me something new.

I haven't listened to the radio in years. I haven't owned a TV in years either.

All radio and TV are good for is to put your mind in a state ready to be marketed to. They're just big vehicles for commercials.

With the exception of some indie and college radio station of course. Those have different agendas typically.

I haven't listened to the radio since John Peel died. I can't find a reason to turn it on anymore; I suppose there's always "Mixing It" on BBC radio 3; but it all seems a bit up it's own arse.

Have any of you old Peel listeners found any other shows that come close?

Usually talk radio here too; either the local sports station or NPR.

There's a new station in town that's amusing that I listen to at work, though. Their blurb is "we play what we want" and they're close to being right. I heard Metallica sandwiched in between the Go Gos and The Turtles the other night

Everything just seems so "run of the mill" these days...maybe I'm getting old???

I haven't found any music that I have gotten excited about in a while. Man I hope I get something good for Christmas.

Good point....but sometimes I want to hear what others have to offer. I spend along time just producing one song and I'm not a very patient person so it's good to just flick on something and hopefully enjoy it.....

I agree - two posh blokes trying to sound knowledgeable about obscure music - but it's OK if you don't take them too seriously; and I have bought music I heard on the show. Plus it's better then the smugfest that is Jools Holland on a Friday night.

I miss John Peel too...

As much as I hate students, the only radio I tend to listen to is student radio and NPR. I suffered through an hour of MTV the other day, a so-called "hiphop" section. Pathetic. About as hiphop as a Hanukkah celebration in Oslo.

Down here there is absolutely no alternative. We have community radio but its all self-interst groups and kids who grew up without the benefit of a radio alternative so the're as bad as the real, commercial thing. I could not tell you the last time I so much as heard a radio. When I worked in cable TV I was bombarded with MTV constantly so I had at least some idea what was going on but these days I am so far out of the loop its not funny [which is just one reason why I am not laughing]. e.g. I could not recognise a Black Eyed Peas song if you were to play me one. I just have no idea at all who they are or what they sound like, although I see their name all over the place.

I have less than no interest in any of that krap any more, especially in the context of our gig last night - we played first, followed by IntraSonic, who had travelled all the way from Perth and were quite good, and Psyche from Canada via Germany, who were really f**king good. Sort of like the better side of Depeche Mode in the late 80's/early 90's. The guy has a great voice [he can actually sing] and the set was musically very diverse, from bluesy, Foetusy kind of stuff to future-pop that blew VNV Nation's effort into the weeds. Sounds like a really great night, eh? Well, it was well promoted by an experienced promoter in the scene and less than 40 people showed up. Why? I imagine it was because most people in the scene, myself included, had never heard of Psyche and therefore didn't see the value in spending $20 to see a few live bands. Its completely and utterly f**ked.

We used to have half decent pirate radio around here & a 'dance' type station (can't remember the name) that actually played different genres of music - so you could tune in & listen to different vibes.
The station was taken over by 'galaxy' - now it's chart rnb dance & hip hop by day, same shit of rotation constantly & weekends it's 'galaxy weekend' (in cheesy obvious dj voice) an unending stream of commercial dance, niche style sppeded up vocals over cheap pre-fab garage beats & lowest common denominator trance.
I don't listen to much radio either anymore.

Sad thing is that if it had been a night featuring a 'name' dj spinning other peoples tunes there would have probably been a huge crowd there.
Did a gig once supporting a very talented band called Bedlam agogo (who were excellent) & the 'crowd' were like extras from a zombie film.
When the dj came on (playing happy hardcore & cheesy trance) the place started to ram up - just couldn't understand it.

yeah over here radio means f**k all now peels gone, even the likes of mark and lard who when they used to have the late night show played loads of great stuff theyre shit middle of the road now

what does our nations youth have to help steer them colin and f**king edith! god help the music industry!!!

Rob Da Bank is doing a decent job on the music front at Radio 1, I reckon. He's still playing happy hardcore and Melt Banana for one thing.

I don't listen to the radio anymore.
