Hi,

This is probably my first post in this section of the KVRaudio.

Was playing with Gigastudio Rewire with Cubase...but have decided to ditch that (for some reason the sound is a bit distorted and this Rewire...man I don't like it). I've just downloaded the trial Kontakt 2. Well, much easier and the sample sounds much better.

Simple Question: -

Now toying with the Battery Synthetic Drums library. As you can see I'm new...but was wondering how can one load the Kick and the Snare sound and play in real time via the MIDI keyboard? Right now, if I load both the Snare.nki & the Kick.nki...I get both the kick & snare sound when I hit the MIDI keyboard :(

I was hoping I could switch at least MIDI channel in real time? (assuming I load the KICk in channel a and the Snare say in Channel 2).
Warm regards,

You can assign each nki to it's own midi channel, and if you then have a midi channel-button on your keyboard, just switch between those two.
OR.. You could choose the snares and kicks you want, in your own nki, and mapping them out in the "mapping editor", thus allowing yourself to play without having to switch between the midi channels..

Thanks for your reply.

"midi channel-button" ? Is this built-in MIDI keyboard or is this something I need to setup in Kontakt

What's the best practice here? Obviously, for drums, I think the later is preferred. How about sample libraries like electric guitar and bass?

It's built into the keyboard. Press the Global Channel-button on your Evolution, and then Press one (or two) of the numeric keys to change the channel. You can also use +/- switches to increase or decrease the value.

Do the first alternative when using sample libraries like el.guitars and bass..

Hmmmm, actually, I have to take different sessions. I think 1 cut in real time may not cut it.

Thanks for the option, anyway.

You could also just edit the programs so you don't have the snare and kick zones overlapping. After that you should be able to play both sounds on one MIDI channel.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

im confused... you just wanna be able to have a snare on one key of your keyboard and the bass drum on another? well, just go to the group editor in kontakt and drag the edges of the samples to fit onto 1 key. no need to mess around with different midi channels for each.

also, if you're using synthetic drums, i guess you know you can load whole kits at a time with all this laid out for you? each kit has a .kit and 1 or 2 .nki files with it. just load up a whole kit.

i never had the kontakt demo, but i'm guessing it comes with some kind of manual. read the part on key mapping.
