Lets try to keep the jealousy of successful artists under control :hihi:

Some of you guys make me laugh, i miss this place sometimes i really do :D

They are all mediocre rubbish and...
Nouveau MOR, safe, souless, ball-less, inoffensive stuff to be played in the background and not scare anybody. And grab the portion of the market that wouldn't normally go to gigs, thus generating merchandise sales from people who wouldn't normally buy it.

Even if you hate it when it catches your attention you can learn to tune it out. I hadn't actually heard the radio at work for months until the annoying seasonal tunes started to get played disrupting the "wallpaper" sound of people on the above list.

That may be the case, but it doesn't change the fact that its not up to you, me or anybody else to tell others what they can or can't like.

How many times does it have to be said - its a matter of taste. No more, no less. I don't like US hiphop much. So guess what - i don't go out of my way to hear it. I don't bitch about it, i don't claim its "lesser" than anything else, i just excercise my right to not like it.

Its the same with film censorship. I say to my mum(for example) - if you don't like it, don't watch it. Why does it need to be more complicated than that?!

(hecker's lyrics aren't all that, either, but it's not like i'd pulitzer him or anything... ;) )
Maximilian Hecker is pretty ok, Infinite Love Song and The Days Are Long are actually pretty good songs (you're right about the lyrics, but compared to blunt they are sheer poetry.) I haven't heard much more than those two, but what i have heard is good enough to push itself out of the "twee" ranks.

What am i saying....compared to blunt he's radiohead. :P

I guess it can piss people off to a certain extent because there is a perception that certain music gets 'marketed' & sells even though it is perceived as 'shite' by many (s'pose there'd be plenty of that perception on a board such as this)or whatever & a lot of 'better' stuff never gets a chance.
Personally that blunt guy bores me to tears, enduring his lovesick pre-pubescent whimpering & moaning is like having my teeth drilled in slow motion with a padded drill by a disturbingly affable, yet strangely melancholy dentist or slowly drowning in a rubber pool full of spikey vampiric marshmallows, which I should be able to easily escape, yet which seem to sap my strength like fluffy leeches whilst I lose the will to struggle.

Never said it was, never tried to impose my taste. I just said it's wallpaper and one can choose to ignore it with a little effort.

Hey Quincy man, there's no need to be so godamn permissive on this subject, or accuse anyone of being unilateral. This is a subject of opinion and personal predilection. No one here is offering irrefutable facts. No one is trying to say James Blunt or anyone else should be a certain way.

What they ARE saying is that they prefer [insert genre here] to be like [insert adjectives here].

People do not have to put "imho" or "imo" before their comments for it to be blatantly obvious it's their opinion.

No one is trying to censor anything, we're not taking pitchforks to the heads of Coldplay are we???

And another thing, what does jealousy have to do with this??

Interesting. When I first heard Blunt, I thought his sound was actually a bit different from the typical mainstream stuff playing. More acoustic and then that weird voice of course. His ballads sounded naked and honest somehow. (Unfortunately the ballads are the only good songs on the CD...).

Anyway, the sound of that piano... :hihi:

quincy's comments are pretty much spot on. it's outrageous to see people get so infuriated about music :hihi:

i think some of his (blunt's) songs are a bit boring and nothing special, but there's nowt wrong with them, or pop in general. if the kids like it, fair play to em. i just can't stand blunt's voice. mind you, i used to say that about billy corgan, but his grew on me. i doubt blunt's will, as it's just really unimpressive, but who knows. maybe we'll get married. :hihi:

and for the record, i think coldplay are really great.

Its a fair point andrew, and in the name of practising what i preach, i'm not trying to get people to stop hating certain music! Its just that sometimes people get a bit too high and mighty about it, and claim something is clearly superior to something else - again just opinion, but hey you're ultimately right and forums like this are exactly the place to vent opinion.

Thats what we're here for i guess mate :)

As for jealousy, what i meant was that some people clearly just get bitter that they aren't successful whereas musicians who they consider inferior are. Again thats just human nature really, its no big deal.

Anyway i'm all for free speech so let the james blunt ass-kicking continue, i've said my bit now! :D

Oh yeah - I quite like some coldplay as well, when i'm in that mood )which isn't often really).
I can hack listening to them at work anyway - but that blunt guy - the channels just got to change.

I hear ya Quinc, I think all humans can get a bit too high and mighty if they're not kept in check ;)

I like Coldplay's first album, Parachutes. Really is in my top 10. But the others are just a bit poo, imo ;)
