Firstly, does it play pre-recorded chords only(the info on the official site is a bit confusing to me)? If yes, I don't want it.

And secondly, do people here like it? Any suggestions for a good 'general purpose' electric guitar emulation? Freeware is preferred.

Yep, pre-recorded. It has a useful feature where you can make your own riffs to a certain extent by playing simple chord "hits" and effects using midi ch 16. Still pre-recorded chords, no single notes. It's a useful plug for a non-guitarist (especially original VG), but it's very limited and limiting both in sound and chords, imo.
